Yes, but god said they'd die that same day. They didn't.

They were cut off from God that very day, that is a form of death.

If Satan is such a good guy, as some of you have stated, then why doesn't HE do anything to help mankind?

What makes you think Satan is able to help? What makes you think he hasn't helped?

Snowbird-I'm sorry, am I understanding you correctly? Are you saying that man became like god in knowing that he was naked?

Aside from exact quotations of what the bible may say....does it even make sense that two peple would be awakened to the fact that they were walking around without clothes and suddenly this becomes a problem? Why is this earth shattering news?

I respect your beliefs but I do think it's off topic. Satan did not prmise to end mankind's problems - the bible indicates ONLY god has claimed this power.

Milligal, that was a direct quotation from The Message Bible. I just highlighted the part about their seeing that they were naked.

The point Mr. Peterson, the compiler of The Message Bible, is making is that their eyes were opened only to the fact that they were naked. Nothing else. What a cruel joke played by the Master Deceiver.

Well I guess I wonder then, according to the same translation why god said (and I loosley quote from the previous posts :) "they have become like us knowing good and bad"

That point aside, I'm sure you agree with the argument that in the bible only God claims to be all-powerful, having the ability to cure mankinds problems.

It is based upon that claim, many hold god more accountable than satan. I'm not speaking for myself, just generalizing the whole 'whose fault is it anyway...' question raised on this thread.

The context of Jehovah and Satan is only applicable if one buys into the Bible as an absolutely true account of events, and in that capacity as being completely accurate. I would venture to guess that many of us on here to not believe this to be the case. That being said, why do humans continue to be the hamster running on the wheel? Especially ex JW's? After seeing the affects that an all inclusive environment of "God's" chosen people can be like, why does one still look to the divine for help with human issues?

In all reality, aren't we as humans responsible for our own actions? We created this mess, do we not have the power collectively to reverse it? Why does one keep looking up instead of within?

It's a cop out mechanism. It allows us to procrastinate or do nothing without feeling guilty in the process. If problems persist, it's obviously not god's time to act.

I've tried this approach with my dishes and laundry but so far no luck.

If you discard the ellipses ...

Oh, do what you like with them. I quoted only the relevant portions in the interest of clarity. It's qute clear from reading any translation of the bible (even the woeful exegesis you quoted) that things happened exactly as the serpent predicted they would, which surprised and angered YHWH, causing him to expel Adam and Eve from the garden because he was afraid that if they ate from another tree they'd live forever and he woudn't be able to stop them.

I don't know how anybody can read that passage and not see it, although I did for years so I guess it's to do with conditioning.
