Was Job (You know the guy in the bible.) religious? I guess he was since God picked him to do the Devil challenge on? I guess he heard about God from one of the "Great Crowd"?

The Ethiopian Eunuch and the Good Samaritan...what were their religions?

i have heard people say "well its cause i'm a christian" as a pat on the back for acting human. not just witnesses, although they take the cake. i am a good person, i look to help both witnesses and non-witnesses. i cant tell you how many times i have been told " your nicer than most witnesses. my wife and i were discussing this as well. like if a person never had a bible or read a scripture and was a good person. then why do i need a bible or be a witness or anything else for that matter.

why does it feel good to help someone out ? why does it feel good to drink a cold beer on a hot day? or why does it suck when the red sox win the world series? do we really need to know all the answers? and what would it change if we did?

Conversely, it doesn't work the other way either.

Being a "good" person (and this is a subjective concept), has nothing to do with religion. There are "good" people and assholes in every religion and among the non-religious as well.

I've never tasted a religious person, but they might be good and tasty. I would guess a lot of them might be quite bitter, though. (hehe)

Seriously, though. I think we have an innate sense of right and wrong, a 'gut', so to speak, that tells us if we are intentionally causing harm of any kind. So who needs a set of rules (which seems to be the way that religions determine whether we are a good person,,, you know, sin and all that stuff) to tell us when we are 'good' or 'bad' (yes, very subjective words)?

Yes, you have to be religious to be Good. In, 1997 Federal Bureau of Prisons reported that 0.21% of inmates were atheist.

A person is only considered 'good' when they conform to the rules that their society expects them to. So good is a subjective thing. Of course murder and pedeophilia are accepted in most societies as bad but in polite society what is good to one person is bad to another.

Religious people have historically held extreme views that were opposed to the views of secular minded people.

In the eyes of a religious person it is impossible to be good unless one is religious, so the answer to the question is - it depends who is asking the question.

SUMMER- I too make a distinction between being " religious " and being " spiritual ". The 2 many times are separate. I agree that the most spiritual people I have met - are NOT religious. I feel many times religious people are more narrow minded. But spiritual people do try to make the world a better place.

SNOWBIRD- People do get very " loud " when claiming to be Christians at times. Very vocal about it. Wonder what they'd say if upon meeting them I pronounced, " I'm an agnostic - and proud of it ! " LOL ! I agree being " kind and decent toward all should be it's own reward ". Very well put by you sis ! Peace Sylvia

DANIEL- P - I feel religion uses a lot of fear to keep people under control . Trying to scare them to be good ! I agree they need to help people have motives to love one another in order to maintain good relations.

MSMCDUCKET- Good points you make ! Lots of people from different nations and religions were " good " people. Good people come from everywhere.

SEEKING HELP- Good point you make. Precisely. Why do we need to be a JW, Mormon, or any religion , or the Bible to be a good person ? I bet you are a lot nicer than many witnesses.

JK- Yeah, I agree. There is dumb in religion, and outside religion. It is all over ! But good people can exist everywhere as well ! It's a crap shoot !

CHANGELING- I agree there are nice people and jerks inside religions, and outside of religions ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper
