True, true... in a sense. Really it just depends on the definition of mystic, though, doesn't it, and here is a case in point where words don't work. There seems to be no word for someone who has had a mystical experience. Oh, wait, yes there is... schizophrenic. Which is, here again, why mystics don't talk about it.
Dang.
This whole thread is why mystics don't talk about it.
hahahahaaaaa I think I liked this thread better as a joke.

To be fair mystics are those who claim to have raptures or esoteric experiences - or direct contact with intelligent invisible forces.
Hope I'm not scaring you?
Mystics do tend to keep quite for fear that some people will think they are nuts. I did say some people and have not expressed a personal opinion.

I watched some show on paranormal kids on showcase today. All I have to say is the fact that all of them refuse to be evaluated by a psychologist was all I needed to know. Never seen more classic presentations of schizotypic symptoms in my life. They also talked about how they couldn't tell anyone for fear those people would say they are nuts.

I agree that mystics don't talk about their experiences very often.
True pursuit of that path takes a lot of learning and a lot of discipline. I couldn't put myself in that category, but I have touched upon some of the things involved. I have started a thorough study of the Qaballah, including meditations on its symbology. That can produce some interesting experiences!
Mystics are not just "people who believe in invisible spirits".
The course I started (directed by a "mystery school") is 5 years minimum. That is meditation and study every day, recording it every day in a journal (and submitting this work) for 5 years.
After that you've still got a lifetimes worth of study to do. Or several lifetimes worth.

Never trust what you see and feel just before sleep.
Same goes for altered states.
Many mystics use drugs to allow them to "see".
JW's would have you believe that drugs open a door into your mind for demons.
On a side note, you ever have a dream so intense, you feel it must be for a "purpose"?
Its just a dream, Nebuchadnezzar. Monkeys and dogs have them too. -

Mystics might not even claim these things. Especially if they don't talk about their experience. Ha. And no, you're not scaring me. You are making me grin.

What would an evaluation have proved to you? What would you have to have seen to be convinced? If they are displaying symptoms which fits a known mental disorder, does that prove they have the disorder? I'm not saying these kids were doing what their promoters said they could do. I'm not saying they weren't. But I will say... those who can do things that would be considered "paranormal" usually would not want to be on a televised broadcast performing like trained monkeys.

Sounds perfect.

Should we never trust what we perceive from the right side of our brain? While our left side is chattering away, thinking endlessly in words, should we distrust what we perceive when the logical, language, left side is hushed?
