    Again, thanks for your replies.

M.J. - I'm now in the U.S. - one fact that I did not mention in my prior post. The experience that I described happened in Taiwan a year ago.

I realize fully well that there may well be other, much more prosaic explanations for what I saw.

My God! I never realized that there were such horrible cancers that attacked specifically the sinus system. When I was in that same hospital, I saw people with enormous tumors. Perhaps the man was suffering from such a disease.

    Thanks everyone for your replies.

I believe there are boards such as this but for those who have experienced NDE's (near death experiences) or try some paranormal phd's who have cultrual knowledge that may help you determine what you may have seen or if it was somehow medically induced.

    Rapunzel,

I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to bring out bad memories for you... I do appreciate you sharing your experience, I can see why it would be hard for you to relate.

First off, I had a great Uncle, that was an oral cancer victim, he also looked much as you described towards the end of his life. He never went out in public tho, doctors made house calls back then.

But, as for the couple standing still and not moving, I have no idea.

I will tell you that before my first Husband committed suicide... he "COULD NOT" look in a mirror...for a week or so before. It terrified him. He said when he saw himself, he had no eyes, only empty black sockets and and his mouth seemed too big.

Needless to say those last couple weeks were a nightmare for both of us... We feel he was hallucinating...in his case.

Odd that he would describe practically the same thing tho.........

If I had been in your situation, I too would have thought it very odd, and would have wondered also. I am sure it's an image you have a hard time getting out of your mind.

    ((((Hugs))))

    Sincerely,

    Cas

Roski - Having lived in Taiwan for nearly twenty years, I am well aware of "Ghost Month."

The experience that I described happened about a year ago, so it may well have occurred during ghost month. As a matter of fact, as you will recall, the past year's ghost month was doubly long due to a strange conluence in the lunar calendar. Last year, ghost month was doubly long.

The thing about ghost month is that it appears to be restricted to Taiwan only. Of course, I may be wrong, but as far as I know, people in Hong, Japan, and Korea do not "celebrate" it. But I could be wrong, as I have lived only in Taiwan, and not other nations in Asia. I know that Taiwanese put a lot of "stock" in their belief in "ghost month." It seems that women will go to almost any extreme NOT to give birth during the ghost month. Taiwan has one of the highest rates of needless C-section delivery in the world. They absolutely try to avoid giving birth during the ghost month. Things have changed a bit in modern Taiwan, but I read somewhere that traditionally, almost all soical activity stopped during ghost month. People hardly dared to venture out of their homes.

Casper - I am so sorry to hear about your great uncle and first husband. I want to give you "hugs" too.

I had no idea, when I wrote my first post, that the scene that II saw would so closely resemble what you expreienced. The correlations are very eerie.

I should say that there were other people in the van with me at the time, but for a couple of reasons, I kept silent and said nothing.

1.) I was so shocked as to be speechless.

2.) I lacked the Chinese-language ability to say: "Hey! Look! Do you see that man and woman standing there? Am I seeing things, or does that man lack eyes?

3.) Even if had been able to ask it, I could not very well yell out and distact the driver. It could have caused an accident.

So, unfortunately, I was unable to get any "thrird-party" observations or confirmation of what I saw. I really wish that I had been able to bring to the attention of those others in the van, but I was unable to do so. I guess I will never know for sure.

Sorry if I have opened up a can of worms here. Originally, it was in fact simply my intention to ask about scientific research in regard to the possibility of the survival of human consciousness beyond death.

Isn't that the way it always seems to happen tho. It seems that when most of us experience the unexplainable... no one else is involved.

Almost like "They"... if "they" in fact exist, want it that way... so many questions, so few answers.

Sorry if I have opened up a can of worms here.

No need to be sorry, this is how we learn from each other... I appreciate your thoughts and find your story fascinating...

I think you could say that "consciousness" is an emergent property of the brain.

I don't know if this will help, I only have a minute.

    I have worked the

ER/ICU in dallas for many years, been with alot of people who almost died. They all had different stories. the one thing that was constant was where they were from, or what type of culture they were involved in.

I saw this over a period of 16 years.
