I would imagine that just about everybody on this planet has at least one issue they are close minded on, so it doesn't bother me. Very few people are truly "live and let live persons". Dawg is one of those. I used to be more that way, but I have "evolved" LOL
Why Evolution Should Be Taught

As for education they need to start teaching more practical things that will further them in life and quit trying to force a liberal agenda on our school children. They need to be taught how our government works, they need to be taught practical things like making resumes, better reading comprehension, and other things.
Whether or not we evolved 1 billion years ago does nothing for my finances, marriage, or anything else substantial in my life. It is practically a non issue, as people will believe what they want.
This subject would be almost non issue for me, if it weren't for some people.Like I said, scary but amazing. If I didn't already know you were a fundamentalist Christian I may think the first two paragraphs were a joke.
Some people will believe what they want...
no, just because I do. just because, plain and simple.
...others prefer to progress in their understanding of the world around them and find out how and why things happen the way they do. And they shouldn't be stunted because of anyone's holy book.

"materialism" is so JW-ish

Eyes Open, "others' are too busy with real world problems such as unemployment, high gas prices, foreclosures than to worry whether or not we evolved. The concept of evolution doesn't put food on the table.

Education in America is heavily tied with "state's rights".
Many voters do not wish for this theory to be taught, currently neither is creationism.
The extreme evolutionists did manage to push their agenda, resulting in every public school science textbook containing a chapter addressing evolution. However it is at the discretion of the teacher to address the topic, if the teacher plans on discussing evolution an opt-out is provided for children whose parents disagree.
Such is a democracy.

JG,
I am sorry you have been abused by some people and treated with disrespect. Its classless and shouldnt happen between any people, regardless of the "group" that they represent. We are all humans first and foremost and should treat others as equals and with respect, I believe that the capacity to do this to a greater degree then other animals is one of the things that makes us as people unique.
I will get back to the nature of your posts though. You are right, for most of us out there, and it was put very well when it was stated that food is not evolving or being created in our fridge, the debate between evolution and creation does not directly effect our abilities to provide for our families on a day to day basis. However, the understanding and continued advancement in our knowledge base regarding evolutionary mechanisms absolutely does have a long term effect on your life and your well being, and this is what impassions people who see that creationism poses a danger to this.
You have already acknowledged in your prior posts that there are medical benefits to the understanding of certain evolutionary processes. And while the other things you mentioned are certainly important to the education process and system (resume building, understanding government, better reading comprehension) you are already benefiting from the fact that better understanding of evolutionary mechanisms have allowed us to construct vaccines to protect you and your family from illnesses that used to ravage populations, anitbiotics that protect us from infections, new techniques just becoming available that will literally help us erase errors in our genetic code that cause not only disabilities in yourself and myself (many not even noticeable) but also prevent them from being passed on, thus aiding the species. The list goes on and on...
This isnt an attempt to convert you. But it is an attempt to correct you. You are obviously an intelligent person, and you clearly have alot to say. And, as I pointed out in my prior post, if evolution actually was as you believe it was, you would be right to reject it. But what we are all trying to tell you is that evolution is not what you believe it is. It is not what I spent the first 24 years of my life believing it was. I now see that I was wrong, and I used to make the same arguments that you are making now.
In a way your posts are no different then if I went on a message board discussing the President Kennedy assasination where people were debating the magic bullet theory and tried to tell everyone that he was actually killed by a knife as opposed to a bullet. We could all agree he was dead, but there would be a debate as to how. Naturally people would be passionate in their attempts to convince me otherwise. Imagine if I continued to reject the evidence of how he was killed over and over again. People could tell me that they found the bullet and I wouldnt accept it. People could tell me I could watch a video and I wouldnt accept it. People could tell me that they had caught the guy who did it and I still wouldnt accept it. How do you think the conversation would progress?
The evidence support evolution is literally just as strong.

Science isn't a democracy.

Perhaps you should spend less time posting on a thread you claim to have no interest in then?

So all of America is so worried with surviving from day to day that they can't spare a few lessons a month to learn about scientific discoveries? You're not seriously suggesting they should scrap science in favour resume-writing?
I'm sorry if you're financially short, and it's sad that many are, but I don't see why that should mean people who aren't able to go to university but who would like to be progressive don't get to learn about evolution.

Yes but unless it is something I can see with my very own eyes, or at least have a credible eyewitness, then I won't believe it. That is my choice. Unless I can see someone evolving straight in front of me, I won't believe it. Most other scientific theories can be tested easily and proven true. Not so with evolution, just alot of guess work, granted it may be educated guesswork though.
I have no desire to prove evolution true, it doesn't affect me whatsoever. We all live, we all will die. I won't spend one miniute of my time trying to prove something true that supposedly happened millions or billions of years ago. -

Eyes Open, college is voluntary and geared toward adults, so what they teach there doesn't bother me as much. grade school and on up to high school are compulsive, and that is the difference.
