Individual effort is the only way. Great leaders do, and inspire many to live with great heart. Entire nations have been turned around, no-violently. Pay it forward.

The opposite is no trust, no faith in others to behave as they should. Every man for himself. That way is anarchy and violence.

I don't trust. Well, I do--- up to a point, but I am a realist.

Anarchy does not equal violence BTW.

BTS...as for the police, it is obvious you did not follow my links. If you had, you would have noted that you made my point. If there is no perception of fairness, police will not be trusted. If police are not trusted, then greater and greater means of violent control is required. Bigger and better and faster weapons. It's an escalating spiral of overt control, that will only stop when we run out of technology and resources.

IF YOU COULD TRUST that the system were fair and just, could you throw down your weapon?

I am a realist too. Anarchy in practice has always been violent.

An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life." -- Robert A. Heinlein

I have a carry permit and regularly exercise my right. I do not, however, 'open' carry. I keep my weapon concealed, so as not to attract attention. I've never had to use it, and I hope I never will.

    Smart kid for 33.........

CCW states have the stats tha prove the cliche. Armed societies encourage "manners"... and carry permits require training. Accident are very minimal among trained, legally armed men and women.

You are an ideologist then, BTS. I did not ask if you would, only if you could throw down your weapon. In truly dangerous societies, people have always yearned for peace. How else do you explain the poignant promise that swords will be beat in to plowshares?

I think you have the luxury to idealize the weapons culture precisely because you live in a relatively peaceful time and place.

I guarantee you, if everyone in the United States were allowed to carry a gun on their hip, people would treat each other with alot more respect.

You are confusing respect with fear. And even if you were not confusing the terms, what so great about treating each other with respect?

So has archism. Overwhelmingly so. 90% of the world's woes lead back to government. There are historical examples of people living in peace without a State. BTS

The swords into plowshares is in the world to come. In this one: Without swords, no plowshares.

I think you have the luxury to idealize the weapons culture precisely because you live in a relatively peaceful time and place.

I value weapons precisely because I realize that the current period of peace is a historical anomaly and not the norm. It is not idealization, it is realism.
