ALERT FRON BETHEL (this may be it)

LongHairGal, I don't resent the average Bethelite. 99% of them are, as we were, victims of victims. I was a Bethelite, as was my brother (for over ten years) and most people there just think they're giving their lives unselfishly to serve Jehovah. In their mind, there is no difference between the faithful slave and God. Again, I could never resent them, just as I could never resent the average rank & file JW.

back on topic, I'm reminded of the recent case with the chiropractor Bethelite sister who sued the Society for compensation for being let go when she obtained an injury. In that case, I believe the judge viewed the WTS as an employer, and that this woman was on "company-related business" or something. So, if there's already a precedent of viewing the Society as an employer (although technically they may have "volunteers"), then they would be held to a higher standard.

For a long time I have secretly hoped that someone would have the stones to take the WBTS to the media.

In the past, it has been easy to diffuse things that have gone to the media because they can be attributed to the imperfect men (elders) in the local congregations (e.g., the abused kids).

But this would strike at the very heart of the Organization itself. Could the FDS make the rank-and-file believe that all of this is going on at Bethel without their knowing about it? If the plaintiffs won out, how would the WBTS keep congregations full of people from doubting the religion, especially after they have recently changed some of their most important doctrines (don't think that these changes have fully set in on anyone but the most blinded).

I know it's all speculation but it would bring me alot of happiness if it were true.

Easyreader, interesting comments. The natural progression of things is for the Society to begin outsourcing their printing operations. If they did that, they'd only need a single complex (Patterson, probably) to manage administrative activities. I think that's inevitably where they're headed with all this "streamlining". It's probably in a 10-year plan. If something like this were to go down (Bethelites suing the WTS), it would only hasten the implementation of that plan.

Mustang - this custom website search might help you track down info specific to JW's

I can see former bethelites just like this in the near future, holding a sign:

" I worked at Bethel for 20 years, and all I've got to show for it is this lousy paper cup".

Interesting point. The Bethel layoffs began when the economy was relatively well, at least as well as it had been in the past 8 years.

Now that the WTS investments (along with everyone else's) are tanking, transportation and other costs are soaring, and it's not even going to be as easy to unload unneeded real estate as it has been, the prospect of an (even more) serious cash crunch for the Society seems to loom.

Will there be even more layoffs in the years to come? They've already trimmed their workforce by 33% or so from its peak. How much more "fat" can they trim? Will they accelerate the next round of cost-cutting measures (likely choices: accelerating the restructuring of the CO arrangement, Kingdom Ministry and/or Study Watchtowers uploaded as PDFs to www.jw.org for POs to print and distribute).

    TNX, Besty,

The problem is that while these citations & precedents are used by WTS, they don't mention JW's at all: they are all about other religions. I'll try your site, though

PS: Daniel, good show; that adds fuel to the fire.

I think those doing the sueing if they still beleive (or have nothing thing they can be DF'd for) are in a very key position to bring change if they take legal action for being kicked to the curb.

Imagine the shock wave this will cause in the Org if they stay there at bethel as unwanted guests by the GB, imagine the change in policy, and the respect they will get from many sympathetic older Bethelities,, and the emboldening spirit that may come about because of what they did. There is a lot at stake and the GB are on the horns of a delema with a no win either way it plays out.
