Wait a minute....when did they come up with 6000 years for each creative day......I thought it was 1000 man years equals 1 day for God?

All this is news to me. When I was a JW, I was taught that each creative day was 7000 years; man was now 6000 years into the last day, add the 1000 year reign to that to make the whole 7000. But the universe and the earth itself was probably billions of years old. I did not realize that they had different teachings in other time periods.
Hi everyone! Thought I'd pop in with my recolection of the whole "creative days" and dinosaur subject. I am 29 years old, but my parents learned from the "old timers".
I had heard a couple ways of doing this. Much of this came from Fred Franz, and he LOVED to play with numbers. Originally, it was all based upon the 1000 years is but a day to Jehovah God scripture somewhere in the bible. But, Genesis speaks of a "creative day" so Rutherford and Franz speculated that this could be 6,000, 7,000, or even 10,000 years. Yes, I have heard 10,000 year creative day as well.
Now, as for dinosaurs and carbon dating. Carbon dating, is NOT full-proof. Even today, things are being RETESTED and being off as much as 100,000 years!! No bull. This is because we are finding out that carbon is NOT A CONSTANT. There could have been much more, or much less, carbon in the atmosphere in the past, etc. So, carbon dating is not completely full-proof.
As for dinosaurs, here is what I had heard. Dinosaurs roamed the earth BEFORE Adam & Eve were created, and God destroyed them (meteor, Ice Ages, whatever-pick one) so that he could start anew with Paradise. I can almost buy that. But here is what I CAN NOT buy into - I was sometimes told by some JW weirdos that dinosaur bones were deliberately created and placed into the ground by Satan and his demons who thought ahead to modern times, basically the entire fossil record was put into the ground by Satan and his minions in order to throw off those in the future, and to place doubts in the minds of future Christians. No, I am NOT making this crap up! I was actually told that sometimes. I didn't EVER buy that line....ever!!!
And now? Well, it's all pretty vague, isn't it? I mean, why wouldn't God's creative days be a billion years a piece? That would seem to fit better.....last time I checked, I think scientists calculated the earth to be 6.5 billion years old. That works kinda ok, right?

I only ever heard of one creative day lasting 1000 years because a day was like 1000 years to god. At the end of the 6000th year, god rested. WT math is crazy because then what is up with the 6000 year wait after creation to make everything perfect, again?

Hi Mini! What has always bothered me and still does is that Angels ( who haven't been tested for good or bad ) ( and when haven't gone bad still see God ) get to see God and know for a certainty that he is real. Of cause I'm getting this information from "The Bible" a book to me that is ambiguous, ambivalent and confusing.
Humans, except for those few who were given visions, don't get to see God in some way shape or form. Some claim that they were born again and had an experience with Jesus.
For most of mankind God is not seen, or, heard from, ever, no matter what kind of holy and good life one lives.No matter what kind of Holy Book they live by. No matter how many years of crying out, praying to God, silence is what they get.
As a Jehovah's Witness we were taught that you can experience a very deep and personal relationship with Jehovah God.
In my 30 odd years of serving I must of been delusional and delirious, especially in October 1975.
2008 and no such relationship exists with God, Jehovah or Jesus.
Very confusing teaching. What does one have to do to get a "Hello" a "Peek" a "Dream" anything???
However I do have a very personal relationship with my wife of 40 years

There was a period when we were supposed to be erring on the side of mercy as elders in judicial cases. Then a year later the elders are told by the Society's reps, "WE NEVER MEANT THAT!". Suddenly, WE were the culprits exercising "too much mercy" and allowing "leaven" to exist within our midst.

I began to slowly creep out of the fog and realise that every JW doctrine was very confusing.
You had to be a mental gymnist to follow along in a Watchtower Study article and figure out just WTF they meant with some of the stuff they printed and the scriptures they used to support their doctrines.

The "Holy Land", where it all supposedly orignated to begin with isn't even represented. You'd think there'd be somebody from the original landscape would be part of God's official mouthpiece.."
Any ex-dubs from Asia or the Middle East got any wine gulpers at their memorials? Curious minds want to know.
