I agree about the 144,000 becoming a symbolic number - some time in the next ten years.

I also agree that if all other JW dogma and practice was abandoned, the one thing they would retain is disfellowshipping. Without that they have no power.

I'm not sure if they will abandon 1914 all together. If they do, they'll wait at least another 5-10 years to do so.

I don't think they will worry about the 144k becoming symbolic , after all they believe that the 12 tribes of Israel is a symbolic number , so the whole subject is a hunch bunch of symbolic/literal hyperbole which will just confuse the R and F and make them believe that the magikal new light has been shone

    New Understanding:

The Great Tribulation already happened. Armageddon already happened. It was all symbolic, not literal. JWs alone have survived the symbolic Armageddon where all other false religions have been cast into the Lake of Fire and no longer exist as far as Jehovah is concerned.

JWs now live in a "spiritual" paradise that no one else on earth has. They alone get spiritual instruction from God thru his earthly organization.

What does this mean? There is no literal paradise. The reward for remaining faithful is paradise beyond, namely *gasp* heaven. The 144,000 was symbolic as well and represented all the peoples taken from among all the nations to serve God in the spiritual paradise, namely...you got it...Jehovah's Witnesses.

See how easy it is to change doctrine? And before anyone tries to reason why none of this can be possible...don't forget JWs believe a load of bullshit that can't be possible now. What's to say the Society couldn't change their beliefs and the dubs won't swallow that any less than they swallow the belief of living forever?

    1 Timothy 4:1

"But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons."

Along with Sacolton's scripture I contribute the following: 2Th 2:11 "So God will send great deception upon them, and they will believe all these lies." (NLT) Things aren't likely to change much. I feel that a massive collapse of the organization may occur in our life times, I just hope and pray it's not as big or bigger than what happened to Jim Jones and his followers in 1978. seek2find

A few years ago there was an Witchtower dealing with the paralels to destruction o f Jerusalem.

They said that we are "no longer living in a period covered by Chronology, but prophecy, so we must wait and see."

This is the way forward. Chronology is no longer relevant.

Seek2Find....do you think WT and other organized religions are the great deception of end times....or do you think there is yet another deception that will occur? Like maybe the lie of "bringing in Paradise"? Do you think it will reach some point of fruition toward a semblance of plans to achieve that paradise?

Hi Camero-d, in answer to your question, I believe that possibly a lot of groups along with the Watchtower make up a great "deluding influence" (NASB), that detract people from the real truth which is Salvation by grace and through Christ alone. Just my oppinion. seek2find
