No Communion for Obama supporters says Priest

This is one of my biggest beefs with religion, and I'm at odds with my family and others about it often. They seem to be too stupid to understand that 'freedom of religion' must also include 'freedom from religion' in order to be truly 'free'. No one has said to Catholics "You MUST have abortions." No one has said "You MUST marry someone of the same sex." If Catholics or other religious people don't believe in such things, so what? They have the freedom to choose. What they should never have is the ability to impose their religious convictions on non believers, either by the gun or by legislation. The moment they try to do that they trample the religious freedom they claim to cherish.

Many priests will tell you that communion is not for perfect people, but to heal broken people.

One should not partake of the Eucharist in a state of sin. This is Catholic doctrine, regardless of what some confused priests might say. If Catholic voters were unaware that Obama supported legislations to allow intrinsically the evil action of abortion then they did not sin. Otherwise, they took action that deliberately aided in the killing of another human person. Fr. Newman is showing both courage and care for the souls that he is responsible for. He is not refusing communion to anyone, he is only telling people to examine their consciences and repent before they receive the Eucharist. This is appropriate.

    It's good to be free.

Hmmmm Did this same priest have a similar reaction to those who voted in Bush for a second term? Seeing how he facilitated the evil of killing thousands of people in Iraq.

The decision to go to war is a providential judgement. It may or may not be a good decision. For it to be just, certain criteria must be met.

Why does God allow miscarraiges? Sounds evil and radical.

I feel truly sorry for people who believe that the Catholic church is the only way to God. They spend their lives afraid of going to hell for using contraception, for being gay, for taking communion without going to confession, etc.... and now for voting for Obama.

I am sooooooo glad to be free.

    GGG, Amen.

In my opinion, attempting to live a life for the greater good without resorting to a personal God is so fulfilling. No more defending arcane tribal laws.

Abortion? I doubt anyone wants an abortion. Why can't we work together to find a way to reduce unwanted pregnancy? Would this priest support increased age appropriate sexual education to reduce teen pregnancy? I wonder.
