When my husband was made an MS, they gave him the accounts "privilege". Well, this man hadn't balanced a chequebook in 20 years! I did it all. It was a foreign language to him. He asked me if I would help him (meaning do it for him). I said "sure I will, just as soon as they make me a ministerial servant." The next month they made him territory servant.

Reniaa, do you cover your head whenever you pray? Have you ever cut your hair? Will you do those things now that you ostensibly follow the scriptures to the T? The Bible doesn't say those rules are for meeting or praying with men in the room. Just praying or prophecying. Having your hair shorn (cut) is a disgrace. Do you think that the sects where women are always veiled or who never cut their hair are going beyond the scripture? They are following it more literally than any JW-who only feels inclined to cover in public meetings IF there is a qualified(baptised) male present. Which is NOT any part of the deal as written in 1 Cor. 11.

It is very simple. If an elders wife will not do as she is told by her husband, why is she going to be expected to obey 9 dickbrains that sit on god's throne in Brooklyn? If they let women actually do anything beyond recruiting, the JWs would cease to be the org we all know and love today! A woman's power lies within her mouth I read somewhere. If this is true can you imagine what lies and hypocrisies would be exposed and done away with within individual halls? A strong woman is more than three men can handle! LOL Yea, I think they know EXACTLY what they are doing at Bethel.

    I love this picture.

In my work I work with women. I see my doctor a great lady, I call tech help a lady helps me.
Speaker of the house of the USA a women.
In my experience women are smarter than men.
I love to see a women as a elder at the Kingdom Hall, especially on a back room elders meeting.

I shall answer the scripture in context, out of the King James version. 1Cor 11:3 is quoted here, and used out of context to belittle women (and I think this is one place where Paul mistook what Jesus said):

1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also [am] of Christ.

2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered [them] to you.

3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the man; and the head of Christ [is] God.

4 Every man praying or prophesying, having [his] head covered, dishonoureth his head.

5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with [her] head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

7 For a man indeed ought not to cover [his] head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.

8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.

9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on [her] head because of the angels.

11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.

12 For as the woman [is] of the man, even so [is] the man also by the woman; but all things of God.

As you can see, it only tells about women wearing something on their heads to pray and prophesy--not that they cannot run for assignments like passing the microphones. And even that is coming from a former Pharisee, who errantly took Christ's words literally. I challenge anyone to actually find something that Jesus said that belittled women explicitly--to repeat 1Cor 11:1, it tells people to become followers of Paul even as he is of Christ.

This gets at the heart, I think, of many problems within the organization. If there were not a pantheon of chauvinistic policies built up over more than a hundred years, I don't think you'd have troublesome policies like the ones that feed child abuse perpetrator protection. Also, by not taking advantage of the knowledge and skill of 50% of the organization's members, they compromise the ability of their "society" to stay relevant with the times. It's the same as male-centered African nations (and all other tribal societies--the WTS is merely a corporatized tribe), where 50% of the population is kept out of important processes like politics, wealth-building, and contributing to the knowledge of the people as a whole. In my opinion, this proves as well as anything that the Bible is not the Word of God, since surely, God would know that a society that intellectually compromises half of its population has no chance of surviving societal and technological change. Tribes have use in primitive, hunter/gatherer-type societies, but they are quickly antiquated in the face of a post-agrarian society.

lol. great thread. you all articulate your thoughts so well, me thinks. /////////// I'm sure there are as many rationalizations for this issue as their are jw men and women alive today, but i've never seen any scriptural backing for why women are suitable to serve by cleaning toilets at the hall but not by counting literature managing finances or praying without dishcloths and toilet paper on their heads. or why women are expected to do the brunt of the preaching work, but aren't respected enough to give a direct talk on home turf. so that leaves me to assume it amounts to "because it's our club and we like it this way". hahaha. ////////// I know I'm probably supposed to forgive Paul for being a murderous bully with partnering issues, and willingly entrust my offspring for unnatural corruption by his personally twisted interpretations of Jesus' 'leadership', but I'm merely a woman, you see, and as such, i'm told, have a memory like an elephant for stuff like that. :O) //////////////////// beyond that, I can only suggest that we're all affected by certain limiting beliefs of our time in one way or another. Whatever Paul's personal issues were, I can only imagine that having already learned to accept, as a group, the very people he used to salivate over murdering, he would have found it a bit much to accept women to the same degree that Jesus did, perhaps least of all after Jesus' own rebellion/apostasy against the political forces of his day landed him on a torture stake. That or Paul was just as scared of women as he once was of christians. They can be frightening lots. Have you seen them mad? boo.
