I think when some people make prejudiced reactions, it's like reinforcing a habit, you do it, without much thought or reasoning.

Someone calls you out on it, and it's like, hey, WHAT WAS I thinking?

of course, you can only do this with somewhat reasonable people.

and when you are hot for a sweet young girl you don't want to lose.

Pre-conceived ideas about class, nationality, education, intellect, anything really - are the stepping stones to being prejuidiced. Most of it is based on fear of the unknown, some instilled in you since birth, and then a small percentage based on previous experience.

I will say this, if I got nothing from being a JW spiritually, I got heaps from the brotherhood of non-prejudiced people.

    I agree

During the 18th century a white explorer in Africa was met with extreme suspicion and dislike. He learned that many africans were convinced that europeans were cannibals because so many of their number got taken away by the shipload and never returned .

I lived all over the south. I was raised during the time of integration. Integration was going on up north as well as in the south. People don't realize it because it wasn't publicized and sensationalized by the media. I have never lived anywhere in the south that had as much prejudice as there is in SW Michigan. I saw it in Chicago during the 70's, too.

I have met many blacks who were raised in the south when I was, doing retail work up here in Michigan. They all tell me they are treated better in the south and were treated better during their childhoods, than they are in Michigan. One lady told me she was raised in a small town in Mississippi that never was segregrated, so it didn't have to integrated. She said that whites lived with and did business with blacks and that there was a happy coexistence. Why didn't national news cover just such towns?

I am sorry to hear that you live in such a backward place. I want everyone to know that only parts of the south are like your town. Small parts of the south. And that you hear whites utter the N word more in some northern areas than you down south. Why? Because our mammas and our friends' mammas would have blistered our butts for saying the words. It was considered the ultimate in bad manners in SE Louisiana.

    Pre-conceived ideas ...previous experience.

In some places, racism is closely related to political posture and intricately mixed with nationalism (whether you call it colonialist attitude or, conversely, anticolonialism) as it is clearly the case in french territories where the locals want to manage the money from the "Metropole" without interference from the europeans.

In order to treat each other as brothers, we have to believe the Bible's teaching that we all share the same parentage.
I love you Sylvia, but science teaches us the same thing. Beyond that, I don't care if we share the same parentage, I care that we are all individuals with hearts and minds, who feel.

    Ohhhh, Bek.

What I was trying to say is that those who claim to follow the Bible have to really believe it; if they actually do, there would be no room for prejudice.

Do you think there are any racist scientists?

You must not be talking about the old testament.
