Do you think there are any racist scientists?
Oh probably, I just mean we can get the message from many sources. That's why I added my bit.
I still say the number one reason for prejudice is ignorance.

My dad was an oceanographer who was a staunch evolutionist. Amongst his scientist friends there was this belief that the brain was smaller in African peoples. The proof they said was that the part of the skull which held the brain was smaller. Then there is eugenics. Evolution can be used to justify things like the master race of Nazi dreams.
You must not be talking about the old testament.
The Old Testament has a lot to say about how we should treat each other.

re Deuteronomy 23:7:
Very nice sentiments. Very politically correct. But let us call a spade a spade. This parasha [weekly Pentateuchal reading] contains laws that are racist. An Ammonite or a Moabite may not come into the assembly of the Lord, namely assimilate himself to the Jewish people. Such a one is, by virtue of his ethnic background excluded for ever. This is racism, pure and simple. Edomites and Egyptians were subject to a less severe rule, but it is racist nevertheless. The third generation lost the stigma of belonging to a special excluded group. Till then, they too were excluded.
How do you justify Israelites being god's chosen people and god advocating taking the land of Canaan and raping and pillaging the inhabitant's and their possessions and all other manner of nastiness? Yeah, no room for prejudice against those gentiles who aren't god's chosen people and whom you're going to murder and steal the land from, huh.
John Doe, you ought to be ashamed of yourself!
You know full well that the Ammonites and Moabites were excluded because of their animosity toward the fledgling nation of Israel.
The color of their skin had nothing to do with it.
Sheesh!

I'm not the one who should be ashamed Sylvia. I'm not the one elevating a pompous, egotistical, misogynist, fairy tale book full of lies to a place of authority in people's lives.
Whhhhaaaatttt ever!

Since I was blackballed literally (couldn't resist that one, sorry), I know what I'm talkin' bout.
White racists will "feel each other out" to see if you feel the same. They tip-toe around like the cowards they are.
I actually went through a period when I hated white people. Seriously, hated them. Chalk that one up to teenage agnst. I'm over it.
BUT when I married my first husband (a black man from Alabama--boy did we have some BALLS), I always would hear whispers......She's too beautiful to be married to a *insert racial slur we all hate*, or I thought she was smart, or I thought she was better than that. You cannot tell me to this day that had I been involved with a worldly white man I woulda gotten a slap on the wrist instead of a big ol DF. Somehow my being seen with a black man made me look immoral. That is seriously messed up!
We ended our conversation.......It's rough when people are prejudiced against those that are not prejudiced.
Unfortunately that's life and you can only live yours without prejudice in the belief and hope that we will all at some point work toward none.
In this context it is about race - but rest assured, that I've felt the tentacles of religious prejudice, cultural prejudice, gender and social. Those are important as well since the prejudice at one level often exists on many others. Inside each culture there exists another sub culture with it's own set of prejudices - and it's all over the world.
