My JW wife told me today that the 2009 Oklahoma District Conventions will not be held in our state. The Tulsa area will have to go to Fort Smith, Arkansas and the Central Oklahoma area will have to go to Witchia, Kansas!

Wow! That is quite a drive! What do you supposed happened?

The WT org was able to save $50 by switching it to the other venues and decided it was worth the sacrifice of tens of thousands of JWs for them to save their Benjamin.

    Yahooooooo !

    Well knowing the WTS....

    1. Cheapskates didn't get the convention deal they wanted and are giving the bird to Oklahoma!

    2. Not enough Okie JWs to fill an entire convention, which would look bad and cause low morale amongst the R&F.

Either way..... it will cause many JWs (marginal or downtrodden) to miss the entire 2009 DC !

    Hey saco,

Perhaps WTBTS is expanding on the success of the approved motel list discounts. Did they send a list of approved gas stations to each of the congregations? Or maybe approved restaurants that are contracted to give JW discounts?

I wonder how the economy will be this summer and how the dubs will handle the expense of the DC. All those travel expenses will come out of what the dubs would be able to donate. It would be a shame if donations were at an all-time low... NOT!

We never had to drive less than 300 miles, except when the DC was in San Antonio a few times.

of course i did live in tx and out of state meant atleast 400 miles from home.

    I make that 1hr 15m and 3hrs 30m respectively.

The first sounds reasonable, but 3hrs 30m sounds a bit over the top. A hundred and twenty years of bashing on doors looking for new victims and they have to gather themselves together from a 3½ hour radius to get enough new recruits to baptise that it isn't an embarrasment.

    Cheers

How much money does the Watchtower save for moving the DCs out of state?

IP-SEC - did you do that drive daily? or stayed over? that's ridiculous. We were fortunate enough to have it less than a 10 min drive (lashings of sarcasm) Couldn't skip the damn thing ever, cos everyone knew where I lived and would have popped in to check up on me. (which did actually happen one year, they just about dressed me and pushed me in their car and took me to the stadium - I sat sulking, arms crossed and told them they'd also have to feed me because I did not want to be there)

It could be very possible that it is a mixture of 2 points, less people going needing to consolidate and needing to save money. I lived in an area that had 3 DCs, reduced to 2 DCs, then shipped away over 100 miles one way.
