I was once counseled on wearing a push-up bra. I acted like I didnt' know what they were talking about.

On a side note....just today I was at Walmart with my oldest granddaughter. We were were looking at push-up bras for her. My husband walked up and heard us talking about them. He got a funny/sad look on his face. And said she should still be eating push-ups, not wearing them. hehehe

STILLAJWEXELDER- So your ties were kind of loud color wise, eh ? I bet the elders were just jealous because they wanted one ! And the elder measuring the length of the sisters skirt ? Incredible . Bet he wanted her to shorten it so he could look up her dress when she gave talks !

NO MORE KOOL AID- I agree totally with you on not overdressing children into miniature adults ! It was incredible how uncomfortable some young ones were in being forced to dress like business men. Really weird.

ASILENTONE- I bet your elder dad was pissed when you shaved your head ! That's hilarious !

WUNCE_WUZ- Very strange story. The elder thought you'd believe in evolution because of the picture of the scientist with a moustache ? You are right - the thought processes of the elders and governing body are definitely skewed completely. Weirdos.

WOBBLE- I'm amazed that they let you do ANYTHING with a beard as a JW ! In the part of the U.S. I lived in in California - you'd practically be ran out of the congregation on a rail if you had a beard ! Shows the WT societies dress codes weren't consistent anyway ! It stands to figure they'd let a brother with a crumpled up coat be an attendant over one wearing neat clothes !

SSPO- Don't feel guilty over counseling others when you were a JW my friend - you were as mind controlled as the rest of us to follow the strict dress codes the WT society handed down. You were just doing what you were programmed to do. Just be glad you got out and that you have the freedom to allow others their freedoms as well .

LISA VEGAS- What a crazy thing to be counseled on wearing a push up bra ! Like it's any of their business ? Jesus. That's funny what your husband said about your grandaughter ! It's amazing how fast they grow up ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

OOPS ! Missed JIM_TX ! Sorry. It's ridiculous they didn't let you adjust the microphones on the stage just due to your hair length ! I had counsel over my hair length as well. Well- I'm glad it helped push you out of the cult ! You are better off ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

I was once told my skirt was too long and they may think I was a Mormon if I wore it in the field! Can you believe that? I loved that skirt it was really warm. Then, if you had a part on the assembly they went over everything you had on as if a police inspection. My friend was told not to wear boots the next week. So what, that it was snowing outside. She brought special shoes next week like a good little dub.

Back in the 70`s you would be counseled for having your hair too long.....Now I`m told you can be counseled for having your hair too short......Whatever cause`s friction and division in the congregation,is what has always been in style with the WBT$.....There has to be trouble 24/7.......If there is`nt a problem..The WBT$ will make one.........................

BUBBLIE- They told you your skirt was too long ? Usually they warned sisters for too short of skirts ! LOL! And they hassled your friend for wearing boots even though it was snowing outside ? Jerks. Should have made the circuit and district overseers and elders go walk barefoot out in the snow and see how they liked it ! Freaks.

OUTLAW- Th WT society certainly is a drama queen club isn't it ? You are right- there always has to be drama and a problem. Long hair out in the 70's , now they hassle for short hair ? Next thing you know they'll want all brothers to be bald ! Christ

Well, I once wore a pair of very clinging white spandex trousers to a party and one of our elders (who was obsessed with sex and suicide, although not necessarily at the same time) approached me and advised against wearing them again (he should've seen Besty wearing them - it would have given him heart failure LOL). I believe he also approached a friend of mine and had a word about her low cut tops. He was always the one to handle the local needs items on dress and grooming (shame about the wording - sounds almost paedophilic...).

Great to be out although in hindsight the style police might have had something to say about those white trousers but it wouldn't have had anything to do with trying to be considerate of pervy elders.....

a famous incident in our hall before I came into the truth so I did not witness it, but the School Overseer got his tape measure out and was measuring sisters skirt lengths above the knee before being allowed to go on the platform

I recall those times as well....in our congregation, it was making the sister kneel down and if her skirt didn't hit the floor, it was too short.

To be honest, there was a good reason for that one. The stage was elevated and so with the styles at the time being short skirts, when the sisters sat down to give their talks, the skirts would slide up and you could see a lot more flesh than you should have. Don't know about the why's in other congregations. sammieswife.

I have had problems with my shirt. They insisted that the top button be done up at all times, even in hot, humid weather, while out in field circus. Plus, it had to be white. Solid white--not white with inconspicuous blue stripes that go with a blue suit. Needless to say, it was a waste of money to go out and get new white shirts when the existing ones were just fine.

They have also insisted on my suit being dry cleaned weekly (until I pointed out that doing that is very bad for the environment). Plus, my shoes had to be shiny and in good condition (appearance wise). I never had problems with facial hair because my work required clean shaven faces.

As for conduct, things like slipping and sliding on the ice, walking ahead or lagging behind the group, and anything that was a little bit of fun was banned. We were supposed to walk as if programmed, from one door to the next, and say what is programmed. Absolutely nothing they couldn't do by building 7 million robots to do the same thing.

I was told by an elder that if my hair was either the longest or shortest of all of the respectable brothers, then I had a problem. I should always be somewhere in the middle. So I guess by his reasoning there would always be two people needing counseling. Which was good for him because he LOVED giving unwanted advice.
