I was counselled by my boyfriend about my white tube skirt. It was long enough. But I guess I looked to good in it. He asked me not to wear it when his mom and dad visted my hall.

I guess his mom was jealous.

They were all a bunch of control freaks especially in the late 60's and the 70's with the frenzied pace on the way to Armageddon 75™

I was counseled for having a moustache. I was counseled for having a shirt with a light blue "tint" in it, not pure white as was required at the time. They took me to task for a tie that was a little too "loud" for local tastes. There were a lot of old retired prude types in the congregation who gloried in stirring things up. A bit of a power trip for them I'm sure.

We had a hall without air conditioning where the temperatures could easily top 90+ in the summertime but removing jackets was highly frowned upon. High was definitely how we smelled after a session like that. FS was the same....Don't you dare remove your jacket in 100+ weather. The HH seeing us coming must have thought we we all a bunch of nut jobs...and we were.

Wonder what they do now with young people showing up with tattoos and everything pierced? I remember a new publisher getting told she didn't have on enough underwear. She wasn't wearing a bra and didn't need one (her girls looked great.) Anyway, she was very upset that they noticed so you know where they were looking! I think she stopping coming to meetings and got smart. I have since tried to contact their family but most of them don't want anything to do with the dubs. I wanted to tell them I left, too.

SWEET PEA- That stands to reason that the elders that always counseled you and your friend on her top were the same elders giving talks on dress and grooming. It shows how obsessed and pervy they were constantly watching what women were wearing.

SAMMIE lEE's Wife- I remember elders always telling sisters to wear their skirts below the knee line so their thighs and private areas wouldn't show. Lots of brothers and sisters got annoyed that the elders made such a big deal about it !

WT WIZARD- Your white shirt, they sure had it out for you 1 They tried controlling your ice skating fun out in service ? Party poopers.

MISSING LINK- Most of the elders loved giving unwanted advice. They sure kept us on that " control treadmill " didn't they ?

LOOSIE- Your own boyfriend counseled you about your attractive white tube skirt ? I guess he really wanted to distance himself from your affections , eh ? I guess his mom was jealous. Am I correct in assuming you are not with this same guy today ?

POZTATE- I feel the elders used all this control as a power trip in regards to our grooming as ell. They wouldn't let you remove your coats in 90 or 100 degree weather ? Ridiculous. I bet the householders could smell you guys a mile away. Man - we were all nut jobs to let them control us that way.

BUBBLIE- You know of a person who was told she didn't have enough underwear on ? Incredible ! Now THAT"S hitting a bit too far under the belt on the elders part ! Jesus. It certainly shows where the elders eyes were riveted

Yup, but freaky part is it still happens.

Back then I was way too much into my own style, now I need to rethink the style

In my final years I took to bringing slippers to the book study (somebody's house), but they were chickens. The only elder on the planet with a sense of humour thought they were terrific, so they stayed.

When we were first married I mean only about six months I was with my husband for a walk through at the assembly and the DO just lit into him about his shrit becasue it was not white. Here my husband had been an elder for well over 12 years at the time but this DO right in front of me just ripped him to shreads saying what was he thinking and being an elder for so long that he should have known better. I felt so sorry for for my husband. We had to go home for him to change a drive of over 45 min's one way. Nither of us said a word the whole drive. The DO we just had 15 years latter would wear all kinds of different kinds of shrits, there was one that I thought looked really stupid blue striped. Most of this DO's shrits were not white. And he had been a DO for at least 20 plus years. I would keep pointing out his shrits to my husband because I felt so hurt at that DO who ripped into my him. My husband kept telling Jehovah would take care of it in his own time and he had fogetten all about that shrit thing with the DO anyway. I cannot believe my husband sometimes. When will he ever wake up!!!!!!

I was also counseled in front of a CO and three elders by another elders wife because my nipples were showing through my top. It was a warm summer day and I was standing in the parking lot. I had on a top on that was really two big for me. Well I guess when the wind came by it made my top hit the offending area and my one nipple showed. She took me aside and said I needed padded bra's etc like I was some stupid teenagers who did not know how to dress right here I was 42 years old. I just turned beet red and all the men just started looking at me wondering what was going on. I just wanted to crawl under one of the cars. I almost all of the time were things that are a little to big for me. I hate tight things just me. I remember just looking at the stupid sister like you have got to me kidding me. She is the wife of an MST school grad and she thinks she is in charge. Anyway three years latter it still makes me mad. The way she told me was so horrible, such a put down.

Count me in as someone counselled for appearance. I had collar length hair. This probably wouldn't have been a problem but I had it all one length, so my front and sides were equally as long as the back. So in reaction to the counsel I grew it to shoulder length. I finally got into a goth phase where I felt stupid having long hair so I cut it and dyed it black. Actually I buzzed basically everything but the bangs for some reason. Which apparently that was fine. Even though it was a super punk hair cut, it was short so that was OK. I still don't see how, it was way more extreme looking than my long hair.

The most bizarre counsel I ever got about dress was in regards to wearing a belt. It was somehow unacceptable to not wear one with my suit. I'd love to know which scripture they could distort to support that one.
