If you're going to slam guns and gun owners, as you have in the past, at least educate yourself about the basics. Then maybe you won't appear as stupid.
And that's coming from a Canadian, not one of us gun-crazy Americans.

Until this year, I never had a firearm. After hearing so many stories about home invasions, etc., I decided it was time to have something. So..I have "installed a home protection device." A pistol grip Mossberg shotgun. 12 guage. It holds 7 shells. My hope is that if the time comes when it is needed that just the sound of cocking the thing will deter an invader.
Hate the idea that I need a weapon, but I don't want to be an idiot about it either. Times seem to be changing.

A pistol grip Mossberg shotgun.
That sounds exactly like what I have. What is the finish on yours? Great shotgun for the price! The only weakness in my opinion is the safety, it is made of plastic. You can get a nice metal one online for not too much and replace it yourself. I ended up removing the pistol grip on mine and putting a full stock by Hogue. It is very comfortable and makes it easier to handle the recoil. With the economy going to shambles, there will be many more crimes. Desperate people of dubious morals do bad things. And unemployed people have more time to cause trouble; "idle hands are the devil's workshop."

I am a card carrying ACLU member, and I think that without supporting your second amendment rights as an individual to defend yourself, the rest of your rights are a dead letter.

GUNS GUNS GUNS GUNS GUNS EGGS AND GUNS!
(Sing to the tune of spam spam spam)
I LOVE guns, love cleanin' um shootin um lookin at um! Guns is funs!
That said, for a conceal carry gun get a REVOLVER preferably hammerless. Every conceal and carry expert recommends a revolver for conceal carry... Although the Glocks are sooooooooooooooooo sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet...
As to .40 vs .45 for stopping power... Whatever. A nice accurate .22 will have PLENTY of stoping power if you can put the bullets where you want them. Shoot them in the heart shoot them in the head and it's all done... (Not that I'm recommending a .22 either you understand)

I watched an awesome youtube clip on a blackwater training clip for the H&K Mark 23 Socom .45 pistol. That's the gun I want. Anybody ever handled one?

I think I need to be advised...:
I have a "throwdown" gun that a cop friend gave me when I was driving cross-country. I have never shot it and want to try it out at a range but I have no license for it and i am sort of afraid it will explode or something when I use it...
I don't even know what type of gun it is!!
I have fired guns before as an ex was a gun-nut (and a fucking moron) and we'd go out n shoot stuff up.
As it is, this hand gun is locked up (a locking cable that threads through the barrel) and in a closet with the keys hidden in another room.
My husband is out of state for a few months. I have a dog. I don't know if it would just be worse for me to have it out and ready to use???
I live in Arizona- if I show up at a gun range to use it will they need to see "papers" to let me use it there?
You gun-nuts give me some advice please...!!

arizona has some of the best firearm training facilities in the country. to be positive call the local police station and ask..... tell them that you are inheriting a firearm from out of state and want to know the rules regarding permits for when you bring it there. they will tell you everything you need to know regarding city ordinances............. ive owned many guns in many states and never had a permit for any of them.
for shotguns.................... i go remington 870 all the way every day........ grew up with them and no other brand feels right to me. but the mossbergs are good to.......... depends on what feels best in your hand, dont like pistol grips unless they have a buttstock attached...... to much recoil without that shoulder to back it up....... but then again i do shoot alot..............if it was never to be used but for emergencys........ but even then you do need some practice.
for glocks............ go to a gun range and rent them............. the 9mill is to commonly used world wide for it to not be effective.......... just not the MOST effective. go for the .40 if you can handle it but cant handle the .45. dont listen to any bull regarding the .40 blowing up on you............ thats nonsense....... the only way any of them will blow is if they are loaded beyond factory levels (handloaded extra hot) or there is some crazy defect (can you say multimillion dollar lawsuit). you can load an all steel gun hot......... but a "plastic" one............. dumbass........
had a glock 22 in .40................. easier to fire than some 9mm that ive had. the 21 in .45 fit in my hand but not as well.
ok the socom h & k.............. you honestly ready to shell out between 1700 and 2grand for one pistol? besides its freaking HUGE......... and you can get a H&K USP in .45 for less than a grand......... same quality........ same calibur............... same capacity. now the socom will have collector appeal in future days and might actually go up in value if you dont shoot it much...... but whats the fun in that.
i do agree tho if your buying purely for self defense and dont intend to shoot it much beyond that you can leave a revolver loaded for years if you need to and its always ready(with proper maint).
