It is flying off of the shelves. And not just that, over the last several years law enforcement agencies have "uparmed" themselves into quasi occupation forces, not to mention the foreign wars have taken a great deal of ammo out off the market as well.
In my neighborhood. Armed woman defends herself from home invaders.

This is not about guns or anything.. but I remember a tidbit of some training I had from a former employer. For ladies, because it was addressed to females. Take your hand and bend it back and shove the bottom of your palm UP into their nostrils. This will sufficiently cause them enough pain to give you a few extra seconds to decide what to do. You can also shove your heels into the top/soft bones of their feet. Take the side of your hand and hit them in mid-ear.

Security cameras help. They act as a deterrent. If you are going to pick a house, all else being equal, you go after the one without the countermeasures. Of course, thieves aren't the most rational people in the world either.

Security cameras however, can be overcome by very low tech solutions. You can wear a stocking cap over your face or you can simply spraypaint the camera lens ifyou're really determined.

Then there's the good old SING defense. Solar plexus, Instep, Nose and Neck, Groin. Strike those often.

I can get you in good enough shape to where you don't need to use a gun against any assailants
Yeah like the pro football player who was shot dead a few years back in his house or the foot ball player here in Jax who got shot 14 times and lost his leg... Pussies! If they had been in better shape they could have defended themselves...

Wow! JWD has changed for the better I see.
Let me clear something up for someone who mentioned "assault weapons". A semiautomatic rifle with a pistol grip and detachable magazine is NOT an "assault weapon". I have an AR-15 with a pistol grip, collapsing stock, and a vertical foregrip. Oh my! Mine must be REALLY "assault" since it has not one but TWO pistol grips! It isn't an "assault weapon" because it only fires once per pull of the trigger.
A true assault weapon has slightly different internal parts and a receiver that is machined differently to house them. Those extra parts allow the safety switch an extra setting, and that extra setting is fully automatic. Without those extra parts (the auto-sear, etc.) an AR-15 is no more deadly than any other semiautomatic rifle that shoots the .223/5.56mm round.
It is true that in the U.S. you CAN purchase true assault rifles. An M-16/M-4, of which the AR-15 is the semi-auto only civilian version, manufactured before May 1986 can be purchased after undergoing a background check, obtaining a letter of permission from your local law enforcement, waiting several months, and paying a $200 tax. The price of an M-16? At least $15,000. Then comes the cost of maintenance. M-16 auto-sears are considered "machine guns" in themselves, regardless of whether they are in a rifle or not, and as such are prohibitively expensive when purchased legally. Ammo will cost more, because when you flip the selector to "rock and roll", you will burn through ammo quickly.

Burns, get yourself a good guard dog as back up...What ever breed you please, but they can hear and sense long before you have clue. Keep your guns, and what ever else you need. But a Good Dog will always keep you posted before you are ever aware you need to be. Not outside, but in the house as one of your family members......you will never be disappointed...Take care. So sorry you have been such a horrible event. What a nightmare.

Sorry I don't know how to go back and edit...... missed a couple of words on that last post. As you know, I will suggest Dobermans for guard dogs. No special training needed. We aren't real good about locking our doors here....the Dobes are on it.....at any time, any hour, any body! We are in a major city in Florida.
Stay safe Burns!~

By the way, I was being sarcastic when I was saying that you could be in good enough shape to take on an armed assailant. Unless you're in tip top military shape and the shooter is within arm range, you BETTER have a gun on you, even if you've had extensive martial arts training.

Seriously, for all you anti-gun folks. How would you defend yourself in a home invasion situation?
I sleep with an SOG seal pup knife, I have a baseball bat in the corner, 4 dogs, and a well lit exterior on my home. I also have martial arts training, and am in very good physical shape. Having said all of that I would still prefer a gun for home defense. Nothing competes with the ability to sling a couple of .45's down range at a home invader.
