Please never allow your mammogram to be read by a tech (for a final diagnosis). Radiographers are trained in the proper way to perform imaging studies. Although they may be able to read obvious abnormalities, differential diagnosis of mammograms is often very subtle. Only a radiologist who has been specifically trained to read mammograms is qualified to make such diagnosis.

Funny I should come to JWD and find this thread. I had a mammogram last night. The tech was telling me that there is not so much emphasis placed on self exams. At least not as much as in past years. But I would certainly want to get that checked.

There is a fair amount of squeezing but the pain is tolerable.

My mom found her lump after brushing crumbs off of her chest... The lump was way high up over the breast. This was about 20 years ago. She went to her Dr. in a panic. They did a biopsy and the Dr. told her it was very aggressive. (good god she should have gotten a second opinon)

At the time she was pioneering, and just wanted it taken care of.....and did not get a second opinion.

She had a complete radical masectomy...along with some of the muscle and lymph nodes. The scar takes your breath away.

Turns out it was not aggressive, and she probably could have saved her breast. Too little to late. Just recently she developed cancer in her other breast..... a totally different version and that was handled, with a lumpectomy......15 years later.

Please forgive my spelling. I have found the entire works disturbing. The Doctors, the testing, etc....they really don't have a clue. They want chemo, hormones, radiation, what ever they can do to cover thier asses. My mother refused all of the previous and is alive and healthy at age 76.

Breast tissue tends to hold toxins. My mother, as a little girl was responsible for spraying the cattle with DDT....now banned. It was her job for years...it layed dorment in her tissues until she was under stress.

The stress was her 19 year old son dieing on a motorcycle. The Doctor asked, what happened 10 years ago.....? At least he had enough smarts about that. He told her the stress of her son's death kicked in the cancer.

    r.

I just had my yearly mammo last week. It hurt like hell. But it was worth it. I got to make boob jokes with the techs. I got a little pink tote filled with goodies and I got a card in the mail today saying my boobs are A-okay.
