Labor? The PEOPLE of this country worked and died for a little bit of power over their work day. Like 8 hours, weekends off, a living wage etc.

My cousins are saying that while not having freedom of speech, religion, or assembly: Thanks for the 8 hour work week and the weekends off, Mr. Castro.

I do not oppose labor when it acts in a liberal way, which is a business.

Where does this fit in the context? And how can you be sarcastic about how far we have come in this country? Or had, until Reagan began the dismantling of the middle class. Unions represent workers, and give them power. Essentially preventing them from being slaves to the "boss". You apparently are against them. At least with your vote. How can you make comments such as above, when you don't even support the worker?

Reagan hated the middle class, look how it shrank! A whole bunch of those middle class people got kicked out into the upper income bracket! And he really hated the lower income people, he must have killed a whole bunch of them. Look how their share of the population went down!

One of the problems with political discourse is that we have no frame of reference, no baseline. What if we started with everyone having the common experience of - you choose - English 14th century poverty, American 18th century slavery, 20th century Nazi concentration camps, or the Dark Ages? Or the Plague, Spanish Inquisition, Crusades, Russian pogroms, Civil War, aparthied, socialism, communism, etc., etc.? But we don't - most of us have never experienced such extremes of man's inhumanity to man.

Usually we contrast and compare with some idealized Utopia that would exist if only - you choose - the House, the Senate, the current administration, the opposing party, the voters, other countries, Burn, Beks, etc. - would wake up and see common sense.

I think that crazy people have far too much freedom - to have babies, to have guns, to move about and within civilized society completely unrestrained. I think that crazy people are not equal to sane, responsible people. I would gladly forfeit some of my freedom in order to keep crazy people from killing any more innocents. Methinks that is what it is going to take. And we won't do it. Because we have no frame of reference. Human beings throughout history have had to compromise unilateral freedom in order to have some measure of survival. But now we spend very little time thinking about mere survival - survival is a given and we demand total freedom at no cost and no inconvenience. We either drastically change and adapt our values or prepare to tolerate more and more random massacres.

But what makes people crazy? I mean it's not generally organic, it's some societal...........pressure. It's not about how many guns people have. Other countries have guns, Canada for example. But why is our culture here in America so much more intense? Why are we so much more violent?

Australia and Canada, while calling themselves independant, still are considered part of the British empire.

Technically yes. But do you really think the Queen or England itself actually plays any part in our lives? Free Smiley Face Other than her face being on our money, or when you get a notice to attend court for a speeding ticket (which tells you that "Her Majesty" is royally pissed off at you), we're our own country.

Although I must say, I really wish Canada and the States were split vertically instead of horizontally......then we'd at least have somewhere WARM to move to.
