"Other countries have guns, Canada for example. But why is our culture here in America so much more intense? Why are we so much more violent?"

This could be why: USA: Population: 303,824,640 (July 2008 est.) Canada: Population: 33,212,696 (July 2008 est.)

Although I must say, I really wish Canada and the States were split vertically instead of horizontally......then we'd at least have somewhere WARM to move to.
What half do you want Mary, West or East coast and why?

Hmmm....I'll take the west coast.....you've got the mountains, the magificent forests and the warmer winds from the Pacific....and I'd love to live in Hawaii......

Exactly, rolling rock. People are always comparing apples and oranges and trying to apply to America things that don't fit...trying to push a square peg into a round hole. Yet they continue to hammer away (or should I say chip away) in order to force the fit. It won't work and it shouldn't work.

And if anybody thinks giving up the individual's right to bear arms will "keep the crazies from killing innocents", you're either very naive or stupid.

Homicides in Canada per 100,000 people 1.9

Homicides in US per 100,000 people 5.5

Population density adequately explains the majority of the difference in homicide rates.

Much of that is criminal on criminal crime activity too. Example gang on gang activity.

    10 x the people = 10 x the crazy

This is why I seldom quote statistics. There are too many variables to accurately understand the mechanisms behind their interpretation, two of which Burns and rolling rock have pointed out. If you don't understand all the layers, it's dangerous to quote stats simplistically and base your entire judgement of an issue on them alone.

So you would say that Canada is actually just as violent as the US?

If population density is the answer, can you explain why California's homicide numbers are only slightly higher than Kentucky, and lower than Nevada, New Mexico, and Mississippi? Why Louisiana's numbers are double California?

Not to mention crimes committed by illegal immigrants.
