In one Massachusetts city, there's a teen curfew fromm11 to 5. Actually, 9 other communities have this curfew in the state.

Some are saying such a curfew is unconstitutional.

What's your view? If a group of kids took a train into Boston, for example, and went to a ballgame, should they be penalized if they are returning home between those hours?

No, except under extreme conditions of civil unrest or natural disasters.

To do otherwise would penalize the responsible teens, such as my daughter.

I disagree with curfews. Shouldn't parents be the ones to, you know, parent?

No, it's not unconstitutional. Children are not afforded all the rights of adults, and they have a different legal status. That's why they can't buy alcohol, get into R rated movies, buy tobacco, get married of their own volition, or even enter into most contracts. There are also restrictions regarding their education, their ability to consent, etc. etc.

Furthermore, I would seriously doubt any town is going to enforce the curfew against responsible teens who are out for legitimate reasons. Everyone should know the aim will be against those loitering and causing a public nuissance.

I honestly feel we should have teen Concentration camps where they can be beaten with rubber hoses and made to stand naked in the rain.

I would only be against it if it's unconstitutional (and not just someone's opinion, actually ruled to be unconstitutional).

I agree with what drw said.

A nearby town has one of these curfews. The courts have upheld them.

    Laws won't produce adequate parents.

Yes, Doe, they would. Haven't you heard of all the zero tolerence bullsh*t?

Kids get into serious trouble for doing childish things. One kid at my daughter's school had to go to Alternative School because she had Advil in her purse. That's against their "drug" policy.

Some of the silly stuff my friends and I did back in the day would land us in serious trouble nowdays.
