Hi,
I was just reading my bible, not thinking of this thread and these verses came right off the page. I think it speaks for itself and is more than apt.
Ecclesiastes 12:11-12 (New International Version)
11 The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails—given by one Shepherd. 12 Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.
Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.
The first couple of verse here talk of the same, Jesus is our Shepherd and His Spirit teaches us. Avoid strife and arguments (sound reasoning is fine IMHO).
That is why I try not to rise to the bait of some posts :)
1 Timothy 6:3-5 (New International Version)
3 If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4 he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5 and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth
Regarding knowledge, we need to check our motives. Love must be THE motivating factor for the Christian.
1 Corinthians 8:1-3 (New International Version)
1 Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 2 The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. 3 But the man who loves God is known by God.
Let us not die though lack of knowledge of God
Hosea 4:6 (New International Version)
6 my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.
"Because you have rejected knowledge
There is one way to know God and that is through His son, Jesus.
John 10:14-16 (New International Version)
14 "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.
John 14:6-9 (New International Version)
6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really knew me, you would know [ a ] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."
8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us."
9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
All the best,
Stephen
