I have a JW in my employ and he is overall a good person, but I am frequently reminded how controlled a JW mind is when it comes to reason. I was in my office with my JW associate when another co-worker (CW) came in and they got into a discussion of Bible versions. It went like this.
CW - Well I use the King James version most of the time
JW - Yeah, but the King James removed Jehovahs name in all but 4 places.
CW - You dont say.
JW - Yes, and that means it not accurate. I use the New World Translation and it has Jehovahs name in there where it ought to be.
Me - Well in the Old testament maybe, but what about the New Testament?
JW - What about it?
Me - It has inseerted the name about 237 times where it never was. There is not one Greek manuscript of the New Testatment that has the tetragrammaton. You and I have discussed this before.
JW - Yeah, but I have told you that the Society restored the name because it was removed.
Me - Removed by whom?
JW - People under the influence of Satan
Me - So Almighty God could make sure his word was preserved, but could not prevent the total and complete eradication of his name in the New Testament?
JW - Hey I believe the brothers in Brooklyn and if they say it was there I have to concur. You think I should take your word over theirs?
Me - No, I don't want you to compare my word to theirs, I want you compare their word to the actual evidence. There is not one Greek manuscript from the first three centuries that has the name Jehovah. Not one.
JW - (hemms and haws for a few seconds) Well, I still put my trust in the annointed. (he then leaves the room)
Me - I am constantly amazed at the grip that organization has on folks who seem otherwise to be normal.
CW - yeah, that was really bizarre.
