Masturbation isn't directly mentioned in the bible but neither is smoking.
Many of the reasons given for disfellowshipping smokers seem to also apply to masturbation: a form of uncleanness, a defilement of the flesh, letting an addictive thing become king over us, a form of covetousness.
Why are occasional, habitual smokers disfellowshipped and shunned, yet chronic masturbators, of which the organisation is of course replete, do not even get a slap on the wrist (excuse the pun)?

If masturbation was disfellowshipping offense, ALOTS of people would be out by then, it would backfire on the WT big time.
I suspect because if they started disfellowshiped people for masturbating... they would quickly run out of members. It's not a moral thing, it's a practical thing.
Besides, how many people masturbate with at least two witnesses present?

Probably the two witness rule, most people do not masturbate in public.
Really I'm not kidding and whose to know how many times a person is masturbating unless he or she goes to an elder
and confesses they are addicted to this habit. I think masturbation gets a light hand ( pun intended ) by the organization
because most and many of the GB members did so so in their youths and older when they were single.
Does anyone think there was ever a GB member that didn't pull his pud once in awhile ?

That's true of course, but let's take this theorectical situation: What if a brother (stupidly) confesses to an elder that he masturbates a lot, thoroughly enjoys it and doesn't feel guilty at all. The elder/s then offer him some advice and counsel, encouraging him to stop it. A few months later the elder/s ask the brother how he is coping with his 'problem'. The brother again says he masturbates all the time and doesn't care and has no intention of stopping. The brother flagrantly rejects any counsel to try and stop wanking. What do the elders do then? Nothing...it's just brushed under the carpet. The worse this brother will suffer is not being asked to do the microphones or some other 'privilege'.
Now how is that worse than a brother who, say, smokes only half a dozen cigarettes a day and never around brothers or sisters but gets put on reproof for it and told that if he doesn't kick the habit immediately he will be disfellowshipped!!
And why is masturbation considered an act of self abuse if it offers a person happiness, calms and relieves
sexual tension. Rather it s ounds to me it should be a categorized as self help to improve psychical and emotional health and happiness.

When I first left the Watchtower in the early 80's I had the same thought and mentioned it to a former Bethelite and his answer was: " There wouldn't be anyone left" and he was referring to those at Bethel in NY.

I agree if that is self abuse what is going to the Kingdom Hall considered self destruction?
If there was anything that come to mind as being self abuse going to the Kingdom hall was it.
Not to mention the assemblies.
OK, I did like meeting pretty girls that I've never met before, but thats all
I confess,I enjoyed meeting nice girls at assemblies. But i do not regret stoping altogether attending any more. This is one of the benefit one gets for being a JW. Naturally, there are so many chicks than males. I am wondering how do sisters cope up with this imbalances?
