Notice how perception of this cult is changing. I daresay that if us enlightened folks are in agreement as to their financial straits, then the publishers won't be far behind. My feeling, from a recent Witness 'get together' is that they know it but no one will say it out loud.

I think they are way, way, way behind on making doctrinal changes and they have no one like Fred Franz with the gravitas to assert the changes anyway. As a result, they must maintain the status quo no matter how stupid it all gets. They must expel anyone from Bethel who thinks differently and must avoid any depth of thought.

The net result is that the magazines are written by whatever hacks remain - and even then whatever they write has to be vetted by the Legal Dept. to avoid trouble. Thus, as to subjects.....

Homosexuals? Careful there, brother. I know we hate fags but we gotta avoid 'hate speech'.

Poverty? Careful there, too. We don't do a damn thing for the poor. Jehovah will kill nearly all of them at Armageddon

Chronology? Number juggling? Just repeat whatever we said before. Nobody really understands this stuff anyway.

Depression? Don't 'let on' that we have a depression epidemic.

Child Abuse? Ok, but don't make us gag with the hypocrisy.

I have little doubt that there's a lot of self censoring in Writing these days , apart from the vtting.

I continue to hope that the Watchtower is coming to an end , not because of any obvious rebellion by publishers but rather because the leadership realizes that their 'empire' is worthless. The more they grow, the more they cut back.

So, you're the Grand Poobah of an ignorant cult that won't open their wallets. What's the point, Brothers?

Combining the public Watchtower and Awake would be no great loss. This way they would be back to 2 magazines a month again (a Watchtower for the followers and an Awake for the public). This would result in a great cost savings for the Society.

Honestly, does the public actually read these magazines that they receive? Probably not.

    My theory....

The WT and it's historical publications are gnawing at the current GBs arses (legally and interpretationally), so why not spend the next year (or two, three) making them less in pages and perhaps reducing from 12 issues to 6 issues annually (dumbed down as the Bible Teach).... then they can use that as an excuse to dump them altogether and the WT named corporations in NY and PENN..... leaving them an opportunity to re-dub themselves fully as CCJW and perhaps a new brochure each year (or as needed) for D2D. As for the public talk..... well they could do pre-written sermons like the DCs and a dumbed down sunday school like lesson version of a newly named WT-esque publication

They may institute tithing but they won't call it that. They will merely point out that everything the Israelites did was meant as a principle for us to follow. So even thought we are not under obligation to tithe, would it not be wise of us, brothers and sisters, to follow the example of faithful Israelites who gave this amount regularly? Would it not demonstrate a lack of faith to do less than this? After all, the poor widow gave all that she had, her whole means of living and this was well more than 10%.

Driver, take this bus to Cuba.

    Sorry for the hijack.

Compare the Society's journal with something like The New Creation published by the CM Fellowship, which is encouraging and uplifiting.

They will definitely move to one monthly magazine for the public. It will be the Awake. The Watchtower will become the internal magazine only. They are bringing this change in gradually.

The current prime directive of the WBTS is expenditure/waste reduction through operational rationalisation. As a global corporation, it's a natural reaction to a weaker global market and toughening economy. The WBTS realises its market is rapidly shifting away from the rich, western world to the third world so it is strategically streamlining operations accordingly. One day all printing will be done in the third world.
