Hi,
I was reading this thread this morning , when I got visitors! So I'm back now to share .
My husband spotted them at a neighbors earlier when leaving the house, there was no one he recognized in the group. He called to alert me!
The couple actually knocked ( a first in this area), my doorbell doesn't work. They were nervous and inexperienced. Read a scripture & offered the mag., I took it because of the discussion I was just reading, I've never seen a mag since the change to public & Koolaid. Promised to read it,to get it. They asked if they could return to answer any questions. I hesitated but said I guess. It's the July 1st edition.
Well my opinion is it's watered down skim milk, definately not offensive. As I read I'd come to the end of a page , but on turning found the article had ended with out saying anything. All the crazy cult stuff is missing, not at all like the Watchtowers I've read on line lately.
Now to prepare for the RV.Any ideas? Nice couple, mid 30's, husband has an unrecognized accent. They are black. I live on the outer edge of the commuter zone to a major eastern city. We have many people who move here to escape the city, there are homes at a resonable price. The congregations are mostly blacks who have moved here & a few disallusioned catholics. There is still growth in the area because of this. I may only have one visit, our home is known because my husband attended when we first moved here.My husband is faded, we are not openly apostate, still have a child in.

But I highly doubt the WTS will institute tithing. One of the distinguishing features of the JW/Witness religious movement is the way donations are handled. Just like loyal JWs would balk at the passing of a collection plate, they would balk at the WTS instituting tithing.
The may balk at it in their own heads but most would be too scared to openly dissent. Back in 1995 I remember people saying "it doesn't really put Armageddon further off" but their eyes said otherwise.
Only the "conscious class" would be likely to refuse to tithe altogether and maybe the WBTS will recognise this as a good way to increase income AND flush out those Awake in the Watchtower.
Smaller Showcase Washtowels? Hopefully this means that they are running out of things to say about the cancer that will not drive the public away. Now, if only the same thing would happen to the Kool-Aid washtowels.
I have noticed more media attention to getting people into the cancer. They are taking out ads on radio and TV that are advertising that the end is at hand, and that you need to go to their Grand Boasting Sessions in order to find out how to survive. Seems they were the ones that lambasted other religions for doing this very thing--and, with all the lies they tell, it is probable that someone will go in because they are afraid of getting destroyed soon, attend one of those sessions, and do what they tell them to--only to waste all their time thereafter in the cancer.
Blithe Freshman - Any ideas?
If you want to be rude, you could say that you looked up some info on JWs online and that you don't want anything to do with a religion that protects child molesters. I think I might do that if someone I don't know comes to my door.
I happen to have that Watchtower and the August issue of the Awake magazine. A couple of weeks ago, I happened to bump into a couple of witnesses, both women. The older one pretty much gave me the magazines and walked off... not kidding.
I noticed the same thing... most of the articles appear as 'fillers', the QFR doesn't even appear as though it was finished before it was rushed off to the printers. The Awake appears to be filled with more fluff than ever.
Yep, just a matter of time before they combine the two me thinks.
The problem is the lack of an activists's role in the world around us. Problems are identified but the solution is far off in some future kingdom.
Compare it to a journal like The Sojourner where 'grass roots activism and roll up your sleeves and do something positive now' is the message.
Since the publications are spiritual pornography, they should really consider giving them a new name, the Snatchtower.
Now to prepare for the RV.Any ideas?
You could tell them you've been talking to someone who used to be a JW (on here! take your pick) who is now being shunned by all his JW friends and family. You could say he was "ex-communicated or something" (so you don't give yourself away by using the real lingo) for expressing an opinion that "his priest or minister or whatever they are called" didn't agree with. He/she still believes in God, lives a moral life, etc., but none of his family will talk to him, return his phone calls, not even send an e-mail.
"That seems awfully harsh! Can you explain why someone who still believes in God is treated so cruelly?"
If they read the scriptures from 1 Corinthians or 2 John, say "But he/she doesn't do any of that stuff! So why is he /she shunned?"
Should be fun to watch them squirm. If you're lucky they'll send an elder or 2, or at least an "experienced" pioneer back to you. Then you can have some real fun!
