However, none of this erases the fact that grievous wrongs were done to our Black ancestors by Whites.

    Nothing will erase that.

... Until a couple thousand years pass and it gets obscured by all the other countless atrocities of humankind, rendered a footnote of history. Sowhat does this have to do with the animal-killer Vick, again? Oh that's right... NOTHING!

Just Snowbird saying that Blacks cannot be held responsible for crimes they commit,

I NEVER said anything of the sort.

I said, in essence, the legacy of pain passed down from slavery is a factor in how Black people behave.

    That's all.

    Sheesh!

The sellers of african slaves at the africa end did not know what fate their buddies were going to. they mostly thought the slaves they were selling were going to be servants. Also they did not know the terrible journey across the Atlantic. What they did know was the way muslim households treated slaves - in these cases slaves became members of the family and yes they were mistreated but nothing to the extent meted out across the ocean.

Why is it that you couldn't just accept the subject of that thread for what it was without interjecting race, slavery or ancestry into it?
If the subject is about a Black or, if you prefer, African-American, then race is automatically interjected into it.

The subject wasn't about black or African-American...it was about an ex-con NFL player. It didn't matter what color he was. It could have been Brett Favre or Tony Romo, it still would have been the same question.

And I prefer "black"...with a little b, because it's descriptive, not a proper name or title.

How about the free blacks that owned slaves in this country QL? They damn well knew what slavery was.

    cintinuing from my last post

... there were lots of white protesters against slavery, mostly christian, but vast sums of money were involved and the slave trade produced instant millionaires and this is what kept the "trade" going. Cruel callous moneymakers. Industrialization and protests but mainly industrialization, put a stop to it.

However early industrialization wasn't very kind to children

    Thank you, QuietlyLeaving.

And I prefer "black"...with a little b, because it's descriptive, not a proper name or title.

Conversely, I prefer "white" with a capital W because it shows the prominence such a pale-skinned people have had in my life.

I capitalize Black just to keep things on an even keel.

Really? You didn't insinuate this at all? You said in the other thread:

Could it be that Vick's seeming insensitivity to animal cruelty is a result of the pain his ancestors have suffered?

I realize this is a difficult subject; anyone who brings up the cruelties of slavery, is accused of not letting go of the past, but I think it merits a mention.

You clearly insinuated that Vick's "seeming" insensitivity (yeah, that describes electrocution and beatings) to animals is the result the pain his ancenstors felt.

That statement is worded so as to remove guilt and blame from Vick due to his ancestors.
