Why is the US so afraid of Social Health Care?

American citizens give plenty of their wealth for re-apportionment by the government. Problem is, these members of the American Tax Payer’s Association are sick and tired of government handing money out to deadbeats. Sick and tired of it. Did I mention we are sick and tired of paying for deadbeats?

When I travel in Canada, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland I do not see deadbeats. When I travel around in the United States I see plenty of deadbeats.

When I travel though poorer communities in Canada, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland I do not see trash everywhere and adults dressed like punks. When I travel in poorer communities in the United States I see trash everywhere and plenty of adults dressed like punks.

Why must Americans keep giving more and more money to people who do not take pride in their own neighborhoods and persons?

Why must Americans keep giving more and more money to a government that can’t fix potholes?

If we go into a deeper depression than we are already in it won't be because we take care of the sick and needy it will be because we have been raped by greedy corporation that have no loyalty to the people of this country or the country itself.

I'm not sure about your comment Marvin. Don't the countries you mentioned have social or single payer health care system?

Why do you assume that everyone who recieves government assistance is a deadbeat? That sounds pretty ignorant to me. The sad fact is that any of us is one accident away from being one of those so called "deadbeats."

Lose your job, get cancer, have a bad car wreck......then you'll see how easy it is to fall through the cracks and end up needing help. It's so easy to just assume everyone out there who needs help is just a lazy deadbeat. The masters of the right wing greed machine prey upon that very weakness in our culture.

I've lost my job, had cancer, been in car wrecks. Never taken a dime. Not even unemployment. Just lucky I guess.

Greed? So the leftie pols aren't greedy?

Explain that one to me, seriously.

The Guardian (UK) - Simon Hoggart, August 15

There are few tribes more loathsome than the American right, and their vicious use of the shortcomings in the NHS to attack Barack Obama's attempts at health reform are a useful reminder.

I was thinking of this during a visit to my 91-year-old dad who is still in an NHS hospital after three weeks, recovering from a broken hip. He has had fantastic care, including a new metal hip, blood transfusions, different antibiotics to match every aspect of his condition; all administered by nurses who remain cheerful even when asked to perform tasks on men – the lethal combination of pain and old age makes some in the ward exceedingly grumpy – that I would not want to do for £1,000 a time. If he was in an American hospital he'd be using up half his life savings to get that standard of care, and few ordinary Americans could afford the insurance that would provide it. (This is because health insurers spend a large part of their income on PR against the "socialised medicine" and on sending pro forma letters explaining why your policy doesn't cover actual illness.) All over the US there are people whose lives are being destroyed for lack of proper health care provision, and there is no sight more odious than the rich, powerful and arrogant trying to keep it that way.

Marvin you've got it all backwards. It's the top 5% that are the deadbeats.

Beks? Why do you always have defelct the real issues to make it about me? This should be about the issues. Why don't you man up and realize that placing too much control in the hands of a few is always a bad thing?

At the present time, under the law, if you go to an emergency room, they cannot refuse treatment because you have no insurance.

That's true to only a certain extent. What they will do is take care of the emergency and then send you on your way to your "primary care physician."

I was in a sliding scale doctor's office a few years ago, and right by the sign that says they would not refuse service if you couldn't pay, they refused service to a woman with a major kidney infection (of course, we didn't know what was wrong with her at the time). She didn't have the $45.00 needed to get in to see the doctor. The woman was obviously sick and feverish.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing but the receptionist was serious, they were not going to see her without the $45.00. Everybody in the waiting room looked at their shoes while the young woman begged to be seen. It was heart breaking and when I couldn't stand it any longer, I pulled out my credit card and paid for her to be seen. You could have heard a pin drop after I handed the receptionist my card.

The young woman started crying and told me she wouldn't be able to pay me back. I told her she didn't need to; that when she had the money she could repay the favor to somebody else.

Our citizens are suffering. Health care must be reformed. The sooner the better.
