I say go for it. Ten years might not be too much difference. My daughter is seven years younger than her husband and they are perfectly matched. They've had many obstacles to overcome, but the age difference hasn't been one of them. I myself am of the age is irrelevant school of thought.
You won't ever know unless you try, so just do it.
Oh and about the double standard, my SIL's best friend loves older women, he is 24 and likes women well into their 40s, possibly older.
He got to meet Cindi Lauper and got a kiss- he was in heaven for weeks after that. Says that it's good to be open to people with experience.

When I was about 20 I really enjoyed the company of "cougars" to the point I would have almost nothing to do with anyone my age or younger. What I really liked was that they seemed to know exactly what they wanted and I did not have to process the "maybe" or "convince me" attitude that I would run into in my age group.
Of course now if I were to look up those cougars they would be around retirement age, might find them living in a senior housing complex.
What is important to me now is not age, but life experience. Face it, some people log a lot of years but they have been in a holding pattern and might not have so much experience or curiousity about anything outside of their immediate surroundings. Some people simply mark time on the calendar and not much else. I could enjoy someone a decade or more age different, in either direction, if they have some passion and curiousity about life.
