Not sure why a stranger was allowed in the room, unless a minor was involved (perhaps stepfather).
If this is real, it was a pointless meeting. While I agree with every argument against the JW's, the Elders did the right thing and recognized this guy was just there to stir the pot and ended it quickly. The Elders handled it by the book (their book).
As many posters have done, he would have been better off mailing his thesis to every member of the cong.
Still, something tells me this isn't real. Not with that second person in the room. The guy was definitely a "born-in" though, you can't fake that.
I see where my jw learned to be so dismissive with me!
Poor Jon...It sounded like he just got the revelation of a lifetime.
I tend to believe this is legit based on the emotion that was coming through...unless they are fantastic actors, it is tough to "fake" that kind of hatred if you don't really believe that what you are doing is from God. JC's tend to be very one-sided...if you agree with everything and fall on your sword, you MIGHT be given a second chance, but if there is the slightest hint of non-repentence, you are dismissed and announced.
Reniaa, have you ever considered that not everything you see and hear on this board is a set-up? If everything is an apostate conspiracy, there is certainly no point for you to even comment or speculate on things like this.
Real or not? I think probably real because if it were staged then it would be worse...But I am surprised that he was allowed to bring along a friend to "witness" what happened . We would never have allowed that .
I agree that it was a pointless meeting. They must have debated with him before that night in order to have the basis to call the J C , so why debate further?
But I attended some pointless elders meetings in my time...BTW I do not approve of lying about recording it . Sound like a cheap trick.
I will never meet with the elders at the Kingdom Hall, nor at my house. If it happens, I'll meet them at a nuetral location. I think this is key in managing the normally confrontational style of these meetings, since being in public holds everyone to a degree of civility that normally doesn't exist in a prive setting.
Also, I will never debate about anything I believe, because I know that under no circumstances would the elders ever let down their defenses in their capacity as a judicial committee. There are only two possibel outcomes in that situation for people like us: 1) Lie to them and say you believe in everything they do and want to come back, or 2) Tell them the truth and get DF'd.

Cheap trick? No more a cheap trick than what the elders use. If I needed to, I would have no qualms about lying to these white-washed empty suits.

That's it in a nutshell. I chose #2. Some can't handle the thought of the shunning consequences. They choose option #1 and live a lie.
PS. I feel sure this is a genuine situation. As far as being disingenuous about the second recorder, so what? Call the cops? Screw a bunch of self righteous janitors.

And if the hammer falls I choose 2 as well. I stick to a low profile as long as they don't bother me, but if they start getting all up in my case, I'll make it short and sweet.
