I quoted above from the New World MisTranslation.

Kat' Oikos means according to ( Kata) Homes/house (Oikos), which means that it is referring (according to) the homes (house) of the people in question.

Exactly PSAC, and the context defines what it means. The entire book of Acts speaks on congs in peoples homes. It makes plain that the teaching was in the temple as well as in the homes of beleivers. There is no recorded instance in the Bible of someone showing up unannounced and uninvited to another person's home to convert. The case of Cornelius was a specific exaplme of the Holy Spirit directing Peter to Cornelius home and Cornelius, alerted by the Holy Spirit was expecting Peter's arrival.

What the WT does is "break" some of the basic rules of translations.

When we come upon a term, as in this case Kat' Oikos, the first time it is used will, typically, dictate how it is used from then on, unless context demand it be used differently, IF a different translation is available.

In a correct translation, since the NWT uses private homes in 2: 46 then that should be the precedent for the rest of ACTS.

The GB wants Acts 5;42 to bolster their teaching on door to door so they render it as house to house and assert they disciples went knocking on each and every door to preach .....house to house does not necessarily mean knocking on each door in a row of homes. Obviously the disciples did not go to each and every door in a row of homes eating a meal and worshipping.

    isaa ...

Many translations,(AKJ, WBS, YLT) including the King James Version actually use the exact words "every house." Many others, like the NWT, use "house to house." There is NOTHING to indicate they only went to selective houses.

And whether they took every house in a row, or every third house, or worked one side of the street at a time, or ate lunch at one and skipped lunch at the next, or didn't enter houses with big dogs, or didn't pee in houses where the bathroom smelled funny or ....

Man, you got to be kidding.

On top of everything else, Jesus never went Door-to-door add to that the sheer issue of going to a strangers door and knocking on it in 1st century Palestine !!

That could have got you killed !

AE: I will do mrs jones and hopefully he wont keep following me on every thread. Thanks....
Keyser: Okay, now I'm confused. This is Isaac's thread, and you chose on your own to post here. JWs do have a persecution complex, don't they.

Good point, Keyser. AE, if you don't want Isaac to respond to you, I would avoid posting on his threads or responding directly to his posts. There are plenty of other threads and posters. Now if he seems to follow you to every other post you have here to respond to you alone, then there might be some substance to your statement. Then you should direct your concerns by PM to one of the moderators, Lady Lee, Scully, Simon, or Angharad, rather than dragging us all into a personal issue.

Here is Jesus own words on how he preached:

    John 19:

    20
Jesus answered him, "I have spoken publicly to the world. I have always taught in a synagogue or in the temple area 10 where all the Jews gather, and in secret I have said nothing.

    Rubadub,

All of Acts, the Gospels and the epistles show they went to selective homes.

They preached in market places, synagogues, by wells, on boats, mountains, walking on the street, and in thechurch homes of followers.

All that is clearly stated, what is NOT stated is that, " And Paul went to the next house, knocked on the door and said, Can I interest you in eternal salvation in the orgnaization of the JW's".
