Ok, I'm going to get something straight right now. Vacuums are not my forte.

However, I have the option of getting one of these at work for $99--half price. Now, I have an el cheapo poc that half sucks, but I'm intrigued by the idea of a bagless design and strong suction power. Has anyone used one? What is your opinion?

Our neighbor threw out a perfectly good Eureka bagless vacuum and we snagged it. Hubby cleaned it up and it works better than the Oreck my parents gave us. So I would say go for it.

a Dyson... which is kind of pricey but fantastic. It literally "cleans" your carpet (I learned this when I had to clean a very large (2,500+ sq.ft.) deep burgundy carpet: I could only afford to clean about 3/4 of it and so didn't bother with the other 1/4 because it really wasn't visible to those I didn't want it to be. My sister-in-law, however, said, "Why don't you use our Dyson - it's great, even gets up all of the [cat] hair." So, I tried it. Although hers was about 6 years old, it cleaned the uncleaned portion of the carpet BETTER than the part I had professionally cleaned! Of course, I went right out and bought one. And although my puppies are short-haired, they do shed on my furniture (which is dark green)... and the Dyson gets virtually every tiny piece! Again, kind of pricey (on sale at the time for $400). But worth every penny. It's also a bit heavy (they didn't have the lighter ones at the time, but mine does have the extending hose, so...)

Not to say the Hoover isn't a great vacuum... or the price good (great?) deal. I dunno, truly. Considering my age... my thought is ANY vacuum that you don't also have to buy bags for is a GREAT deal.

    Peace!

    SA, on her own...

I have a Dyson Slim DC 18 and it's awesome! I think they discontinued the model that I have so I hope it lasts. I like other Dyson vacuums but not as much as I like the one I have.

Dysons are known to be the tops in the bag-less variety, but they do cost more generally over the other brands.

You pretty much get what you pay for, Hover is a another brand that have some good modestly priced bag-less vacuums.

Homer, that "Hover" vacuum you have, is it the "J-Hover" model? Just wonderin'.

Yes it is, its the only one in their line that spits out fire and brimstone and sucks up immortal souls when you turn it on

Another vote for Dyson. Our new Dyson from Sears was worth every penny, since we've got pets. It's amazing how much hair it picks up. The model we bought is called appropriately, "The Animal."
