I LOVE my iRobot Roomba for the floor.

Oooh! I have thought of getting one of those. Can you tell me know it works? How do you program it to do a room with stuff? I always envision those things working best in the typical Scandanavian dwelling (I LOVE the "Ikea" look... and one day would like to have more of a "minimalist" environment - though I would keep my glass-doored bookshelves, 'cause I HATE to dust!). Right now, though, I have so much "leggy" furniture (sofa, love seat, chair, desk, ottoman, coffee/end tables, potted plants, book cases, etc., etc.,).

I HATE vacuuming, too (have since a child, when I had to lug a monstrosity of a Kenmore canister up and down the danged stairs, as well as change it ghastly bags), and have wondered if this might be THE machine for me. I found these microfiber gloves that make dusting a breeze (along with the Swiffer, of course!)... and ANYTHING that can help me vacuum LESS will definitely go my "wish list." What can you tell me?

    Thanks... and PEACE!

Shelby....The iRobot Roomba scans the room electronically and just "knows" where to go! You can place sensors where you don't want it to go and it will not go past them. It is amazingly efficient and all you have to do is empty the tray and tap or blow off the filter. When it is finished with a room, it stops or, if near its docking station, returns to its dock to be recharged. It doesn't climb stairs, but it will vacuum both carpet or hard surfaced flooring. They are round and stand about 2-1/2 to 3" high and if it cannot go under something low, it gently bumps it and continues on. There are small rotating brushes that enable pickup in corners and along baseboards. I love it!

    Dear Nelly... peace to you!

[Shelby slaps forehead] Of course! I will get that microfiber cloth - it works WONDERS for dusting, why not the dang floor?? DOH! My house is old (built in 1932) so I have hardwood floors, which I do love... but, yeah, a lot of "bunnies." They look really nice when they're all polished up (notice, I said "when")... which is why I can't bring myself to cover them although we do almost freeze some winters - LOLOL!). And yes, I have slipped and almost broken my neck a couple/few times - actually did slip and fracture a bone in the top left foot this past summer! and am dreading the day when dear hubby takes a toss - Oh, lordy, NOOOOO!!).

But I have the two puppies and recently installed a doggie door - which I like because they can go in and out... and hate... because of all the tiny little wet "feet" marks from outside) and we recently had some pretty nasty storms and my back yard still has some damp spots, which they always manage to find...). Will pick up that cloth ASAP. Thanks, and...

    Peace to you!

Dear Journey-On... peace to you and THANKS, as well! I'm seriously thinking about it (although, I'm also envisioning a couple of very "guilty"-looking puppies and a destroyed $300 vacuum unit after a romping, rousing "game" of "Chase the Roomba" - - LOLOLOL!)

    Peace to you, as well!

I purchased a Miele last year one of their top of the line ones and am very happy with it, its very quiet, cleans extremely well and built extremely well.

They are considered the Mercedes of Vacuum cleaners for good reason.

They are the top rated cleaners in most consumer reports.

I don't mind paying more for real quality, that lasts and this is what Miele gives you.

Electrolux used to be one of the best, but they are not as good as they used to be, different marketing strategy I think.

The only down side is they cost a lot more, but in reality you'll make up for it in its longevity.

I concur on the Dyson. Love mine, and you can see how it cleans. But it's a heavy sucker.

But I was wondering, the other companies say they have the same technology for about 1/4 the price. That might do ya if you don't have a large space and go easy on it. Just sayin.

puppies....gotta luv em, i've spent the last few months slowly acclimatising mine to a 7am get up, (ok theyre awake earlier and playing but theyre let out at 7)

and now theyve put the darn clocks back, puppies body clocks have no regard for human clocks. sigh!

Just got my wife a bissel for $77. Its a bag version and she likes it. I like the dyson ball but the $500 price tag is out of reach for now.

Got a VAX bagless - fantastic device - half the price of a Dyson too.
