I had to look up Council Estates. Here that is called Public Housing. Yes there are areas of town for this. Also called "projects" around here.
Do you all live in Flats (apartments or townhomes) or do ya'll also have houses with yards in developments or subdivisions?

It's not fair or accurate to think that all 300 million people who live in the US share a common slang. This is a big country settled by people from many countries all over the world.
US slang and language related sites:
- Amerispeak - contains a selection of expressions associated with the US.
- A Seattle Lexicon - for 'Lingo from the Far Corner' offering sections on geography, events, sports and coffee amongst others.
- The Pittsburgh Dictionary - for the regional language of Pittsburgh, check out Pittsburghese.
- American Dialect Society - founded over a century ago and the only scholarly association dedicated to the study of the English language in North America.
- Bay Area Hip Hop Dictionary - a good collection of slang from San Francisco, including Bay Area links.
- Slang City - guide to American slang, including explanations of popular songs and movies, bad words, body parts and more.
- A Historical Dictionary of American Slang - presents a unique way for studying slang. It contains over 2200 slang words with the centuries in which they were first printed.

i live in a semi detached house with a garden, some flats here are council and they werent ever really called apartments or studios until they started trying to cram everyone into the inner city and make it trendy - but they are just being pretentious and dont want to call them flats because that doesnt sound as posh.

Nor does everyone in England have the same accent or use the same slang.
I think Hollywood does a terrible job of trying to copy British accents in the movies, second worst only to trying to copy Southern accents.

creativhoney, I never gave you a proper welcome to the forum, so ...
Consider yourself at home.
Consider yourself one of the family.
We've taken to you so strong.
It's clear we're going to get along.
Consider yourself well in
Consider yourself part of the furniture.
There isn't a lot to spare.
Who cares?..What ever we've got we share!
If it should chance to be
We should see
Some harder days
Empty larder days
Why grouse?
Always a-chance we'll meet
Somebody
To foot the bill
Then the drinks are on the house!
Consider yourself our mate.
We do't want to have no fuss,
For after some consideration, we can state...
Consider yourself
One of us!We call blood clots "scabs" too.

Cause we want to...wanna make sumthin of it?
See...this is why we had to leave in the first place. Can't even eat properly in your eyes. Right. Let's go start a country where a man can use his eating utensils without being persecuted.
