I'm interested in what goes on behind the scenes. History is written by the winners, after all.
So am I, and I couldn't agree more.
However, discerning readers can always "sniff" out the smell of stale fish!

I'm learning about Marcionites, Ebionites, Arianism, Sabellianism, etc.
I'm having a gay old time!
Take that WT, and stuff it in your ivory towers!

I appreciate your intellect Sylvia Snowbird
As I do yours, Terry Walstrom.

Christianity is as distraught and tense with contrary opinions, in-fighting, controversy and critical debate as it eve was. NOTHING is established for certain. Let's be clear about that.
EVERY religion was/is liek that, even judaism had its "branches" and still does.
Think the Phaisees and Saudecess didn't have their differences?
Part and parcel of the package that is trying to understand God.
Marcion was also an early revisionist that changed the parts of Paul's letters and Luke's gospel that didn't fit his personal theology. Not really a champion of the truth in my opinion.
If you know what a KOAN is, and I'm sure you do, you know that human imagination is attracted to an almost logical mystery puzzle that is unsolvable.
Else, why would LOST be so popular?
LOL at the ads this topic is generating!
Terry, you're something of a mystic, aren't you?

Oh my! Oh my!
This is something of a bugaboo of mine, I must admit.
May I explain something here?
Please consider this.
The Gospel was STRICTLY WORD OF MOUTH. Every time anybody told the story to somebody else THEY REVISED IT!
Paul's letter (probably only 7 of them are authentic) to anybody got copied and recopied. The accuracy or revisions or interpolations which may have happened are beyond our ability to measure. We DO KNOW that no two copies of anything seem to match exactly with what is today available.
So, why am I telling you this?
I have to cry "foul."
You use the words "Personal Theology." Paul himself was CREATING A PERSONAL THEOLOGY! Each part of the Christian map at that time had a different personal theology.
If you doubt it ask yourself why Constantine had such a devil of a time creating an ORTHODOXY? These communities were usually at each other's throats over doctrinal differences. Violence often broke out from debates and disagreements over what was true.
So, my main "bugaboo" is that discussions about early Christianity aren't usually informed discussions. I don't blame anybody for not reading the early documents. We certainly weren't taught to do so by Jehovah's Witness "Kingdom Ministry School." And, frankly, they are rather boring documents. But, they do exist.
I'm not picking on you. I'm just asking you to reconsider your FIRST reaction and--in light of what I've just said (which I urge you to investigate yourself) revise your own opinion.
You may want to tell me to stuff my Marcion up my "sun don't shine" and I wouldn't blame you. I offer this for what it may be worth to you.
Thank you, by the way, for taking the time to comment. Always appreciated.
