Should The Police Be Able To Search Without A Warrant?

I know this is a little off topic but this reminds me of accounts from people on this DB and my husband how some elders (too many) feel it is their perogative to search the homes of jws they visit, checking their CDs, DVDs, music choices, etc.

My husband was a new elder being "trained" and was told that when the person left the room to check these things....once this elder was disappointed and suspicous when he found the storage unit to be locked and later commented to the jw why they felt to keep it locked. I have heard of elders searching music media in people's cars.

    Where is their warrant?

I can remember one non-jw husband booby trapping the storage unit to make a loud noise when the door was opened having seen elders in the past doing an unauthorized "check." He asked them why they were snooping...the elders were so surprised that they quickly left without a word. He told his jw wife that there were to be no visits from the elders when he was not there. If she needed "encouragement" they could do it at the KH.

No ... the "if you have nothing to hide" argument is bogus.

Numerous studies and history has shown that power is abused and misused.

The checks and balances are there for our protection.

I think the failings in the criminal justice system are more to do with the legal system and technicalities rather than front-line policing.
