Could be....I only had the bound volume...I was inactive before that for several years and did not have the loose issue. It could be that they were only released in certain areas. I'm sure as soon as those issues hit the desks of the Bethelites and they read it, someone pointed it out. They get theirs before they go to the congregations, I think.

It must really take a hardened attitude to make changes like this, or that one on the "purpose of the Awake" slogan and not seem to think the slightest thing about it.

I guess the writers that do such stuff rationalize it as being for the greater good or something.

I also have the single issue of Jan.1, 1989, and it too states: "completed in our 20th century".

I thought it said something about "people who saw the events of 1914" which was changed after almost all such people died off.

Every two weeks for almost 4 43 years — from 1952 to 1995 — the Watchtower Society’s Awake!” magazine’s masthead use to say,“Why Awake is Published— Awake is for the enlightenment of the entire family... Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator’s promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away” (Awake!, October 22, 1995).

Yet, there came a day when this promise was changed. With the release of the Nov. 8, 1995 Awake!, the masthead was altered to read, “Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator’s promise of a peaceful and secure new world that is about to replace the present wicked, lawless system of things.”

I don't have it in English. I am from Europe. And there is some delay between authorization of English edition, and translating it in other language. It is changed in my (Paul, you have a PM) language.

Shortly within our twentieth century, the “battle in the day of Jehovah” will begin against the modern antitype of Jerusalem, Christendom.
The Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah - How? 1971 p. 216

15 The righteous “sheep” class among men are on their way to everlasting life in God’s new order of things under Christ. A “great crowd” of them will survive the coming battle of Armageddon. As they thus enter into the reign of Jesus Christ for a thousand years over the earth, they will not need a resurrection. (Rev. 7:9-17) By the faithful course they pursue then under that Messianic kingdom they will avoid being executed in the “lake of fire,” the “second death,” and will never die as human creatures. They will never go to Ha′des or Sheol and need to be resurrected.

16 However, it will not be so with the “goat” class of our twentieth-century generation. At the destruction of Babylon the Great and in the battle of Armageddon they will be executed with an everlasting punishment and will never be resurrected from the dead, for they will go into the “second death.” Consequently, at the beginning of Christ’s millennial reign, there will be no “goat” class on hand to interfere with that righteous rule. - WT 15 March, 1965

Neither of these are attributed to Freddy.

If he ever said such a thing, I don't think you will find it in print. It may be that he did say that in a public talk or in conversation, but you could never prove it without a recording of it.

It could be that your 'source' is wrong. Ask them to prove it.

    Cheers

    Chris
