I think it has to be hard for a deaf person to come out of the WTS especially if they have family who are still in. I don't know if it is the same but the Montreal and Ottawa groups met at the same district conventions. And we sometimes went to Toronto - way back when the WTS was still using large stadiums. So the 3 groups all knew each other.

I suspect the same could be said of any deaf group where there were cities near enough to travel to for conventions. You all knew each other or at least knew of each other. Leaving would be more difficult to fade away

When I was first learning I would go to my friend's house and sign all day long with her. By the time I went home I was signing in my sleep. -- Really! I still love it

    Lady Lee,

Within the Deaf community or Deaf World, its a small world. Almost everyone know each other. Many know each other based on the school they attended. There are few schools for the deaf. In USA, we have Gallaudent University for liberal arts education and NTID in Rochester, NY for Technical education. Many Canadian Deaf students attends those schools. Gallaudent University in Washington, D.C, is considered to be the world's mecca for the Deaf people. This applies to sign language interpreters too.Imagine, its harder for a hearing one to come out of the Watchtower, how much it will be harder even more for a deaf person!!!!!!!
