After perusing through this article sent to us by our lurking JW friend- that's what I took away from this study article entitled " What Jehovah's Day Will Reveal " . This article was printed to keep JW's alert to the alleged urgency of the times - just in case some get puzzled by the new extended overlapping generation theory and lose their sense of urgency. I think the WT society is covering their backside here , doing possible damage control , and are very nervous about negative fallout in regards to how some JW's may respond to this extended " overlapping generation " theory being pushed. So they are keeping the foot on the " urgency " accelerator of the last days !
On pg. 4 , paragraph 6 it states about Satan's influence, " Therefore, knowingly or unknowingly , those infected by the world's spirit allow their minds and hearts to be influenced by Satan, so that they reflect his thinking and attitude. They react to situations on the basis of pride or selfishness, they manifest a rebellious attitude toward authority, and they give free rein to " the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes. " Translation : " If you aren't in the witnesses you are a fornicating, selfish, rebellious pig who is prideful - inspired by Satan ! "
Now notice the admonition to the witnesses ! In paragraph 7 it states , " How important, then, that we " safeguard our heart " by exercising godly wisdom in our choice of associates, reading matter, entertainment, and Web sites that we may visit on the Internet ! " Translation : "Keep the hell away from apostate websites , non-witnesses, don't read ANYTHING we don't give you, avoid pornography and R rated movies !"
Then they counsel witnesses to avoid violent entertainment- or they'll kill each other ! On paragraph 9 it states, " During Jehovah's day, those who have been molded by the world and it's evil spirit will display their true nature , even slaughtering one another. In fact, it could well be that the numerous forms of violent entertainment popular today are conditioning the minds of many for the time when each man's hand " will actually come up against the hand of his companion. " How important then , that we reject anything - movies, books, video games, and so on - that may engender within us traits that are detestable to God, such as pride and the love of violence ! " Translation : " You watch movies, read books, play video games that are violent- you'll want to kill each other ! "
NOW - They get into the urgency thingie ! In paragraph 12 it states, " Both Paul & Peter foretold that Jehovah's day would come " as a thief " - stealthily, unexpectedly. Even true Christian's , who are keeping in expectation of that day, will be surprised by it's suddenness . " Now comes the hammer falling and the warning ! In paragraph 15 it states, " Sadly, though, some have become casual or even cynical about reminders concerning the need to stay awake. ' We have heard that same reminder for decades', they may say. However, those individuals should keep in mind that by making such remarks , they are actually questioning Jehovah and his Son, not just the faithful slave class . " ( Somewhat arrogant statement you think ? ) " The article continues, " In addition, Peter wrote : " What sort of persons ought you to be in holy acts of conduct and deeds ofgodly devotion, awaiting and keeping close in mind the presence of the day of Jehovah ! " Never will the faithful slave class and it's Governing Body take a casual view of those earnest words ! "( So does that make the GB more righteous than it's members doubting or us ourselves ? )
NOW- The dissing of the " evil slave " ! Next paragraph it states, " Indeed, it is the " evil slave " who concludes the master is delaying. That evil slave is part of a group described at 2 Peter " In the last days, there will come ridiculers according to their own desires " who mock those who obediently keep Jehovah's day close in mind. Yes, rather than focus on Kingdom interests, such ridiculers focus on themselves and on their own selfish desires. Let us never develop such a disobedient and dangerous frame of mind !! "
So do you think the GB is trying to stop any possible fallout of the rank and file from getting soft ? Trying to keep the urgency up in them in spite of the new " generation overlap " theory ? Having been born and raised in this organization for years I'm seeing this as a desperate effort to offset any slacking on the rank and file witnesses part. As always - I look forward to your opinions and takes on this.
