I'm not a lady, but I'll throw my two pennies in...
Ask 20 different women and you're gonna get 50 different opinions. They all have their own tastes, likes and dislikes.
If ya'll are serious enough to be talking engagement, you should just go look at jewelry. Or you can be coy about it and while at the mall just stop at the one of the 5 or 12 jewelry stores in there to look at watches and then watch to see where her attention is eventually taken to. Then you'll have an idea of what style jewelry she likes.
And then after you're sure you know what she likes and you buy it, be prepared that she doesn't like it. Because they like to change their minds and fuck with ours... but even that's okay because it will be the thought behind it and the fact that you care enough to buy her a ring and propose. She'll love it for that very reason forever.
Good luck...

I don't mind men weighing in, just don't need my relationship analyzed by people on the interenet that have never met us. I am just worried about coming off "cheap"..... That is my primary concern, not if she likes it (we'll deal with that after).... It's just simply will something like this seem appropirate or as being cheap to most women?

The style of ring that you've picked is the most common. Remember, a platinum mounting costs about 3 X more than 14 kt. gold.
You can get a 90 point diamond from the $1000 range or spend more than $5000. It all depends upon the clarity, cut and color.

Ya I am familiar with the cost which is why I included it in my original post, so once again. Ladies considering our age and incomes.... would this be considered cheap, fair or frigg'n unbelieveable?

I know you mentioned the cost. Do YOU think you are being "cheap, fair or frigg'n unbelievable"?

Who says you have to get a white diamond as a center stone? Personally I like color precious stones and besides, everybody has the generic white diamond. In some cases people are wearing CZs. These days, some people do not want to pay exorbitant prices for a diamond.
You can get a lovely engagement ring with a nice sized sapphire, ruby or emerald as a center stone with diamond baguettes on the side.

Personally, I think anything more than $5 is frigg'n unbelieveable but it ain't me that has to wear it.

I totally agree with Longhairgal. The ring I picked out had a diamond and rubies. It isnt traditional and I like that.

Cagefighter, if you are comfortable spending whatever you want, that's what counts. If people tell you their opinion, that's great but it means nothing---they're not buying it!
You wanna be impressive?? Get at least 1 carat. When asked how big the ring is, you'll say, "it's just a little bit smaller than a carat". Just get a carat and you'll be happier.
