ASO: Oh you asked for it buddy!, here goes my piece, with love though :-)
I met a fairly intelligent Spanish woman today at Starbucks.
>>What was your criteria to determine her level of intelligence? However whatever your criteria you had determined that she was fairly intelligent, ok so lets see.
She also looks good, I taught her to do ABC's (fingerspelling-sign language)
>> Yeah some people are attracted to Spanish girls. by the way, how did you determined that she was from spain?
Her first language is Spanish,
>>Yeah the majority of people from Spain usually speak Spanish a few also speak "Catalan"
She knows some pretty good English, but needs some more improvement on her English skills.
>>"She knows some pretty good English"?
She does not know ABC's that good.
>>Here is where my questions start. I thought that you had determined she was fairly intelligent. So maybe the test was not that accurate. The ABC's test that you did on her was in spanish or english or both? This woman speaks two languages? So she knows some letters and she is missing some other ones? I wonder if she speaks only words with letters that she knows?
Is that normal for Spanish people not to recite ABC's?????
>>I wonder the same too, of the 45 million people in Spain I wonder how do they survive with that level of illiteracy, however some still manage to pass as "intelligent"
I had to write down the ABC's for her and she took it home with her.
>> That was sooo nice of you. :-)

Actually, her race is homo sapien.
When will that word finally phase out?
A Guest,
AS1 is ALL about the looks. Trust me on that. He's also proven thread after sleazy thread that he has nuts for brains. He thinks with them a lot.

If you taught her the fingerspelling of the ABC's for sign language you mean she can't pronounce the letters in English? No duh? Do you know the Spanish fingerspelled alphabet, they do have one, it has more letters than the Ameslan or Signed English alphabet.
If I remember correctly when I studied it the Spanish ABC's (abecedario) has 30 letters.
Do you know how to pronounce them all?
Why is it we expect everyone to learn English if we're not willing to become polyglots ourselves as Americans living in a continent where Spanish and French are major languages too?
BTW most of the Western part of what we call now the United States was once Spanish and Native American speaking. English came later, it's been less than 200 years since a lot of the States in the Union joined the U.S.
Before that, Spanish was spoken among Native American tribes in the South West, due to the Spanish arriving in the early 1500, and running rampage through the continent with their toledo steel swords and armor, horses and gunpowder, and let's not forget the European diseases brought into the New World. But it seems most Americans either don't pay attention in World History class enough to learn about what happened before the English came over and established the 13 colonies in the East Coast.
Ok, rant over, but I think the level of literacy in most Spanish speaking countries is quite high; Spanish is quite phonetic unlike English, and places like Cuba have a higher percent of literacy than even the U.S., go figure.

But really, dear ones, this wasn't about race at all, but about "national origin." The race is "White." The ETHNICITY... is "Hispanic."
Don't know much about Latin people do you oh prurient ass in the Ivory Tower? Do you really believe the ancestors (and look-alikes) of the Aztecs painted on the walls of the National Palace refer to themselves as "white"?
Google "La Raza" and start your cultural studies.

I think the way you people have pounced on asilentone is not good.
He does not know some things about some people, that does not make him a bad person.
He is asking questions, in his own way. Remember, he has a major barrier to overcome.
I am hispanic/latino, and I am not offended.
Some of you feel like you have to denigrate others just because they are less knowledgable.
This fellow has a handicap.
Shame on you.

Broken Promises
BTS,
Funny how you’re saying that we should cut Silentone some slack, when he never does the same for others. As regular readers of his threads would know, he’s constantly judging people, especially women, by his incredibly high standards which I’m sure he doesn’t/can’t live up to himself.

I met a fairly intelligent Spanish woman today at Starbucks.
If you want to find a really intelligent woman, look in a place that serves better coffee than Starbucks. Better yet, find one who buys unroasted beans, roasts them to perfection herself, and brews her coffee at home, to enjoy it on her deck overlooking her panoramic backyard.
Then send her contact info to me.
