I wish you had of told that Elder that: Half of the people come to the kingdom Hall to avoid the tragedy of being shunned, not because they sincerely believe what is being taught
    .

Yeah that would have been good to tell him. I unfortunately did not really know of the shunning and damage it causes then. I do kinda remember thinking, what is the payoff then for all of the sacrifices and extra work we (JWs) do? Where are the blessings?

We can all wonder about how JWs - or any religious people - explain the awful tradgedies in their lives, but I agree with Tammy:

It's kind of insensitive to "use" the JWs reasoning back at them when they suffer. It's a childhood version of "He started it" reasoning where someone justifies what they do based on what the other person does.

The death of the named woman will leave so many of her friends and family grieving without using the news item as a way to ask JWs so-called difficult questions about their reasoning.

I am against the "insensitive" words that have been used on this thread about those who were involved in this accident. I posted my own experience on this thread because it hurt to hear the way some on this board seemed to care so little about the lady who died. I could have been killed back in 1972 and then never would have gone to Bethel; never have found out about and revealed the awful child abuse problem in this organization. If that woman who died yesterday in W. Palm Beach as she was going out in field service had lived, she might have been one of us in the future who left the Witnesses and shared her experiences that might have helped others. I'm sad that there are posters who hate the Watch Tower so much that they hate the victims of the Watch Tower too, something all of us once were.

    El is really upset Tec,

because he feels pain for someone he doesn't even know,

that's something we should never lose as human beings

I'm sorry, Elderelite. I did not mean to imply that your use of profanity was wrong, only that I can't use it. I totally understand your feelings, and I was not meaning to pass judgment or even imply that my way was better.

Barbara - I'm glad you shared your story. It adds much needed perspective to this thread.

We've heard plenty of JW urban legends like where angels protected that sister who called on a guy who had just murdered the Avon lady. This gives the impression that Jehovah will protect you while out in Service.

These are not just JW urban legends. I got an email the other day from a non-jw friend with the story about a little girl walking home from her friends house--decided to take a shortcut through an alley. Then she saw a man standing at the end of the alley as if he was waiting for her. She became uneasy and started to pray for God to protect her. When she arrived at the end of the alley, she walked right past the man and arrived home safely.

The following day she read in the newspaer that a young girl had been raped in the same alley just twenty minutes after she had been there. She decided to go to the police station, and they asked if she would be willing to look at a lineup to see if she could recognize the man and identify him. She was able to point to the man and identify him. The man then broke down and confessed. The police asked him why he had not attacked this little girl. He answered, "Because she wasn't alone. There were two tall men walking on either side of her."

My friend who sent the email said this story gave her goose bumps. I don't know if I have the heart to tell her that I've heard several versions of this story over the last 50 years, and it wasn't always from the JW's.

    Friends,

I've got many relatives in Africa. JW's in Africa die caused by hunger and sickness. The society is doing nothing for these JW's.

No medicine, no food, no help anyway, only sending CO's time by time for the organizational things. The Holy Spirit gives these JW no manna, the keys of the prison to be released, miracles to recover from sickness.

    It's all unforeseen occurrences.

The JW mythes told in congregations and conventions are absolute BS. Why does Jehovah protect brother A and let sister B die. Because there is a greater plan for brother A?

This part of believe is so hypocritical. I lost my fait because one of my relatives has died under those circumstances that if someone from heaven could help, they simple had to be there at that moment.

I don't believe someone in heaven can help people on earth. If they could, they are very very cruel to let this things go on.

I'm in my mind with the family of the JW woman mentioned above, I hope they will find some peace, at their own way.
