Why did God kill children?

BD: Fine, but then stop using the argument that God can kill babies because he made them. You just said he cant. He can (in your oppinion) kill babies because he is love and perfect.

God is the perfect baby killer.

Personally, if i was perfect, i dont think i would end up in a situation where i would kill babies by the 1000s. My resolution to that problem is that God is not there, at least not the "baby-killing while perfect" God.

But LWT, how would I benefit from rejecting the concept of God? What cage am I stuck in right now?

I think it would be entirely depressing.

When I was a believer, I held the same opinion. Perhaps it was a bit scary at first, but once you realize that you really didn't win the lottery and the balance in your checking account really isn't $56 million dollars, you can make the needed mental adjustments and enjoy freedom and happiness. Moreover, my life has much more meaning.

Well right now, I only feel that I have benefited from my relationship with God. I have hope. I have a sense of fulfillment NOW. I don't believe that I only have a few years to live and then die forever. I can live my life as though I already have everlasting life.

Actually my point is not so much about salvation in particular, but self interest. Which has more merit: Someone who follows a way of life because they find it rewarding, or someone who does so simply because they feel it's the right way to live, in spite of receiving no special benefit for doing so?

Jimi Hendix said it 40yrs ago.

Falling mountains just don't fall on me
    Point on mister Buisnessman,
    You can't dress like me.
Nobody know what I'm talking about
I've got my own life to live
I'm the one that's gonna have to die
When it's time for me to die
So let me live my life the way I want to.

leavingwt - just wondering, do you have a "my story" kind of thread burried somewhere in the 10'000 posts?

    (sorry for being off-topic)

It may not benefit you at all. The cage will always be invisible if you like where you are at. So, we cannot possibly identify and discuss any cages, at this point, by definition. If, at some point in the future, your faith/convictions don't make sense, then they might seem like a cage. If your faith is totally a positive thing, how could I offer you anything that would be better than eternal bliss with Jesus?

Maybe this was said, but if that's true, that god killed them because they might grow up to be sinners and he gave them eternity in heaven, what's the point of life on this earth? Why not just stick them in heaven to begin with?

The mind cage, frankly. Putting aside the question of benefit, if God exists then it is not dependent on whether you hold that concept or not right? We can write a bunch of Hallmarkesque things about love to each other, or we can just practice it in terms of how we live with each other. Which is more real?
