My hair is baby fine and straight. When I was a kid, before I hit my mid teens, it was thinner. My mom put perms in my hair, trying to give it more "body." She even made it a lighter blonde when I was in the fourth grade, hoping it would make it more coarse. Over the years I rolled it, permed it, etc. I tried hair cuts that would not work with fine hair, so I had to have more perms. These days my hair won't hold a curl easily. My hair sure work in french braids or corn rows, it's too straight, fly away and fine.
From aged 17 until I was 37, I had tons of this fine, straight hair. One time I decided to try to crimp it. I crimped every layer and it took four hours! It looked like a long fro, parted down the middle. It was to the middle of my back, too. I didn't understand that when your hair is that thick, you only crimp the top layers. I am laughing thinking about it. But then Carrie came up pregnant when she was 17 and much of my hair fell out. I looked like I had male patterned baldness. Eventually, it did grow back in. Now it's not nearly as thick, but in a way, that's better.
Finally I have just decided that my hair wants to be straight and more one length. It's graying and I am not covering the gray--right now. I have come to love my hair. Now, if I could just find a stylist who knows how to cut straight, fine hair and make it look good!
PS: when I was younger, it was so oily I had to wash it everyday. During the summers I'd wash it twice a day.
