    People and denominations certainly debate its existence now.

    Well...I was speaking of believers not atheists of course.

    Every religion has their version of "hell", even the JW's ( the lake of fire in Revelation).

    They may choose to name it something else, but every religion has a version of a "place" where the "bad people" go and never return ( some are tormentd while others simply never return).

    Certainly all the monotheistic ones do.

    Not to mention making sure hellfire would have an endless supply of fuel & oxygen to keep the flames from being extinguished, and somewhere to vent all the smoke. Also, inventing a fire that causes gruesome torment and pain to spirits who can evidently pass through material things. Of course Satan & the demons are there working for God doing the torturing, but the hellfire doesn't affect them.

    P.S. I forgot the the immortal hellworm "maggots" that cannot die there, but somehow also cause torment to the poor souls that ended up there. Also, the intense heat that cannot evaporate a drop of water, but still intense enough to roast your ass for eternity.

    You mock the religion of JW and others. Why? Because the beliefs are absurd, in your opinion.

    Indeed. Good for the goose and gander type of thing eh?

    Many of us find Hell to be absurd. As such, we mock it.

    I don't see how you can't help but mock something we find absurd, it's human nature to do so.

    As tolerant as I am of others I must admit that at times I "mock" the whole reincarnation of a person into a pig or insect thing, though mock may be a too strong a wrod for it.

    Like the Trinity, some X-JWs still attack a Watchtower caricature of Hell. A strawman.

    Burns,

    Some here believe precisely what the WT describes. Here in the Deep South, the fire and brimstone is still popular. I'm aware that the Catholic Church has abandoned the literal, fiery Hell.

    For those who find the idea repulsive, HOW the people got there isn't of much concern. The very existence of the place is of concern.

    And people thought "new light" was only a Watchtower concept. Really glad they abandoned the burning at the stake fiery hell to prime you for the real hellfire.

    Deputy Dog,

    Not sure I understood your point. The point I was trying to make is this: After you die .... you are either Righteous or Unrighteous.

    If you are deemed Unrighteous you go to hell. Yes? If now you must suffer Hellfire ...how will you feel it forever IF you are dead?

    So then, if you are dead, God would have to bring you back to life. It would have to be Eternal Life, so that He could punish you & you could feel the pain forever! .......... BUT, it is only the Righteous that get Eternal Life not the UNRighteous.

    Righteous = fullness of life

    Unrighteous = nothing

    I meant believers too. Universalists for certain... but also, i didn't realize you were including annihaltionism in a variation of hell.

    Think About It,

    Many churches teach that Hell is a separation from God. Further, they say that ONLY people who WANT to go there, end up there.

    As many atheists authors ask, who wouldn't choose eternal bliss with God? Who would choose Hell? Nobody, of course.
