Because I am NOT perfect and I can be a huge SOB if I allow myself to be, YET I KNOW right from wrong, I KNOW it when I do it and I knwo it when I see it done to/by others, and if I, a lowly person KNOW this, then God must know it too and IF God is a superiour being then God must be superiourly moral as well and as such...

I can see the argument from morality used in support of a deistic god but not in support of the bible/Yahweh (or Allah, etc). If anything, many passages of the OT strongly defy our natural sense of right and wrong.

Do I disregard the morally corrupt God of thr OT and follow the God of the NT and pretend the OT God doesn't exist? or do I accept that the warnings of the prophets and Jesus about the scribes playing "loose and free" with the word of God means something?

Or do false presuppositions lead to false dichotomies?

Psac, I agree with you there... only an idiot would follow the Israelites into a parted Red Sea. Think about that. All Egyptians must've been incredibly stupid. Ridiculous. All the more reason not to accept it as historical fact.

But again, the point in question: God killed enemies before. Why let Satan continue to exert his influence?

    No, no, no....

Youse guys have got it all wrong...

Satan's not an idiot... Well, that is, IF "Satan" even existed at all, but for the sake of argument...

All that "we" know about "Satan", comes from the guys who hate his guts, right??

NEVER MIND the whole "Gawd loves EVERYBODY and hates to see an evil one destroyed" schtick, we KNOW "Gawd" is a-gunnin' for "Satan" after his "son's" supposed "thousand-year-reign", right???

So, how accurate do you think the information in the bible is going to be, regarding "Gawd's" supposed "adversary" - or perhaps more accurately, "questioner"...???

I'd say, if you REEEEEE-AAALLY want to "understand" Satan™, you'd best review his REAL works, not just the sheepherders' legends in the bible...

Stuff like, oh, proof that the earth is round instead of flat/proof that the earth orbits around the sun/proof that the earth rotates instead of the sun "rising"/epileptic fits aren't "Demonic Possessions"/that birth defects don't mean that a woman or man have "sinned"/women are the equal of men and not nasty little temptresses/gramophones/telephones/cell phones/radio/television/iPods/Facebook/video games/moving pictures/special effects/animatronics/steam engines/gasoline engines/airplanes/locomotives/space travel/space exploration/scientific exploration/scientific advancement/DNA research/stem cell research/open-heart surgery/surgery of ANY sort/autopsies/methodical criminal investigations as opposed to "dunking" and torture to extract confessions...

    And so on...

Remember that most of the things I listed above, have been considered as being "FROM THE DEVIL", at one time or another...

Yeah, "Satan" is really dumb, all right...

And just to be an imp, I would suggest that you might want to check out "his" "Satanic Verses"...

Sorry, I thought you were adding the argument from morality in there but it looks like you were just posing a "god is superior, who are we to try to reason on his actions" perspective.

Do you think it would be correct of God to kill Satan because Satan is "influencing" people to do something they KNOW to be wrong?

So this is a good cop/bad cop thing? They're teammates? One tells us what not to do while the other tries to get us to do it?

Actually, what I was posting is that, if we lead with the premiss that God is morally superiour, we have to reconciel that with the passages from the OT that seem to indicate otherwise and to do that we must either ignore them, accept the warning of Jesus and the prophets that man ( the scribes) have altered soem of the word of God, or whatever other option you can come up with.

Oh, absolutely. If that premise were true, then you'd have to assume that we CANNOT judge anything god does as morally deficient. But that's why I added the question about false presuppositions leading to false dichotomies.

Remove the premise and start from scratch without bias, though, and you'll get a whole different perspective.

What's wrong with assertive tone? Agressive or passive tones I could see being edited but assertion is what we all should be aiming for, imo.
