I have thought many times about whether my life was better or worse. For me I think it was probably good. I think my relationship with my parents would have been worse.

Good thread Minimus. I get turned off sometimes by the extreme negativity on this board sometimes, although I admit I contribute to those negative sentiments. Being fair there are some good things about being a JW, and some good things about the WT.
While I have reservations on the no Blood doctrine, one positive thing about it is the networking created for JWs with medical dilemmas. If a JW gets hurt or sick and needs to seek treatment in another city, both the patient and the family will recieve a support system. Granted much of that support system is to ensure the no blood doctrine is followed. However, even when blood is not an issue, often enough JWs will be willing to take the patient or the patient's family in, throughout the duration of the patients stay. I've met many families whom I never would have met if not for this networking.
The same can be said with disasters. I knew quite a few JWs from where I'm at, head down south to help out post Katrina. Granted I hate how the organization pats itself on the back after doing something honorable, but I do like the networking and assistance. I'm not saying nobody else does this either, but it something positive about the WT.
I like that the WT promotes a bible education work. There's many today that wouldn't know where to begin with a bible. Many who wouldn't know how to apply certain principles found within the scriptures. Bible based publications aren't a bad thing on the surface. JWs are out there and willing to assist those who want to learn their bibles. I just hate that the main goal is recruitment and not being able say enough is enough without serious fallout for those baptized. There's no room to agree to disagree when it comes to WT.
The holiday aspect is another good thing. I hate people anymore, I can't stand the human race. Anything to avoid the filth and depravity tainted people in Wal-Mart or shopping malls is a beautiful thing. I don't want to eat dinner with family, I don't want to shop and buy gifts for people, I don't like people telling me to get into the spirit. I hate holiday songs, and holiday colors, all that crap. I thank the WT for making me the scrooge that I am. It really is a ying and yang. On one hand as a born in JW, I'd like to punch Jaracz in the mouth. At the same time, I'd like to shake his hand for making it so I not only don't have to celebrate any of this holiday crap, but I can poke holes through the origins of holidays and ruin it for other people. I went from going to the library during 5th grade Christmas parties, to not having to buy people jack shyt as an adult.

Being a JW is never longer than a lifetime. If you are lucky, a lot shorter.

I thought of another bonus! I have more dress clothes than anyone I know!
Me too. Problem is I rarely have a reason to wear them. I'm thinking of giving most of it to goodwill so I can free up some closet space.

ditto to miseryloveselders. I hate the holidays and don't care about black friday and all the jerks that show up for it and stampede walmart employees to death, believe it should be banned all together. I'm sick of the santa clause bs every year and would never attend any church that encouraged it , thanks to the WTBTS. My personal experiences with these people is that they are serious back stabbing idiots tho .

My 32 inch TV for $197 at Walmart wasn't there at 4 a.m. per my friend.

Instant friends when you move cross country, as my wife and I often did. My wife still has several close friends in places that are thousands of miles apart. These are fine, decent people who also happen to be hoodwinked by the Society to which they adhere. There have been a number of assholes, too, but not many.
Another plus is the delusion that you don't have to die but, then again, being in la-la-land not unique to Jehovah's Witnesses.
That said, the scales are still definitely heavily weighted on the other side.
