I doubt the underlying situation and spirit at the WBTS branches can be described any better or more accurately.

Their pathetic fruit proves what they are at heart - definitely not disciples of Jesus - definitely disciples of the Watchtower and its god - the god of religion.

In the late 1980's even when still in a Watchtower induced fog and haze, I felt very strongly about the above situation. I was adamant that it was just plain WRONG to hold volunteers captive with no honourable exit, especially once they had honoured their 4-year (?) commitment.

(Why does the "true religion" secretly blind its followers to the "Good News" according to Paul, Moses, Isaiah and Psalms?)

Has it never occurred to them that the heavy yoke put upon them is not of God?

    No, it doesn't...

They consider it all a part of the endless loyalty and endurance test that is the WT religion.

It seems to me that this particular story was a particularly painful one to read about. Well, it was a particularly painful one to write about too, let me tell you.

In a way, it summed up the reason why I left the so-called "Truth" to begin with.

All their so-call love was conditional, yet no amount of sacrifice was enough.

So how the hell do you win?

I see it this way - Your friends were just hanging on by their fingernails themselves!

    But in their case,

    a. it was a couple. possibly unevenly committed. and

    b. They did not have any other options.

Your going back to a "normal" life made them confront their own dilemma.

I would like to know the eventual outcome for that poor couple of institutionalized cult followers.

    Glander,

I would love to know what happened to those two myself. I really liked them and they ripped my heart out just for leaving Bethel.

I never contacted them again and of course they made no effort to contact me either.

But then again, as my story went, NOBODY seemed to care what happened to me after I left Bethel.

I've had many, many ex-Bethelites tell me since I originally posted this story that they had the same experience.

    Spiritual Paradise indeed...
