Anonymous, that is a great link. I like how by far the greatest amount of earthquake energy released in a single year was a few years before 1914. Also, despite a 5 times increase in populations, deaths per million has not gone up.

Yes indeed . . . bookmarked that link. It shows the degree of 'random consistency' we might expect, with a cyclic nature characteristic of most natural occurrences. Geological evidence suggests there have been periods of much greater seismic activity than we are experiencing presently. Shame there isn't the data to extrapolate over a longer period of time given the relatively slow rate of tectonic change. But like many sciences . . . it's all quite new, and a work in progress.
Nevertheless . . . there's no correlation with the Biblical prophecy that some would have us believe.

Too cold for me down there, still thinking.
I'm heading north, closer to the sun. GT territory. Hurricanes, volcanos, tsunamis and all that stuff.

Black Sheep You have a point, forgot it gets soo cold down there. I'm not a huge fan of it either. I may have to rethink.

I'd like to walk around Stewart I in summer. I've heard nice stuff about it. Plenty of seafood to be had on the way. Just go the opposite way to the tourists, so that you get different company each night.

Black Sheep To be honest its North that really appeals to me as a place to move to. Even though I would love to visit Stewart Is.
We are seriously considering selling up within next few years and moving north. Want some land to grow stuff, take my goats & chooks, my goats are just spoilt. Actually I really enjoy the chooks so wouldnt mind some sort of chicken farm/growing stuff. Still deciding.
Trout fishing would be a bonus, love that. Spinning though, never tried fly.

Just when you think things have quietened down . . . we get woken up with a 5.5 . . . our 3rd worst day for damage since Sept last year . . . 83 damage reports.
This is how it appears on the drum at present (drum updates automatically) . . . the 5.5 was followed by a 4.5 some hours later and both were close and shallow.

I wonder if there's a link with the Chilean volcanoes?
